After losing in the Supreme Court, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), respectively, received a hand of friendship from President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu urged Obi and Atiku to work with him to develop Nigeria and advance the nation.

Reports state that the Supreme Court rejected Atiku and Obi’s challenges against Tinubu’s victory on Thursday.

In response, Tinubu stated that his Supreme Court triumph had further intensified and reinforced his resolve to treat Nigerians of all political stripes, tribes, and religions with honor and utmost respect.

“It is time for us to build our great nation together,” was the president’s comment in response to the verdict.

The statement’s full content is below.

I applaud the decision made by the Justice John I. Okoro-led panel of the Supreme Court on the presidential election petitions that the candidates of the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party filed to overturn the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision.

Without fear or favor, the court has treated all of the matters raised in the petitions fairly and on the basis of the law.

With today’s significant ruling, there is no question that the Honourable Justices’ diligent work and unwavering professionalism in overseeing this case have contributed to the further consolidation and deepening of our constitutional democracy and electoral jurisprudence within the fabric of our nation.

While the contentious debate over who actually won the 2023 presidential election and satisfied the legal requirements outlined in the constitution has been put to rest by today’s verdict, I want to stress that my confidence in our country’s legal system has never wavered—not even for a second—because I am confident that our sacred courts will always provide justice to all Nigerians, in every situation. The judiciary showed its unwavering dedication to preserving the rule of law for the advancement and defense of mankind in the face of intense pressure and intimidation tactics from certain political figures.

Today, it was confirmed once more that the All Progressives Congress, the party in power in Nigeria, had legitimately and freely won the popular vote. This has allowed me to lead this wonderful country during a turbulent time of historic reforms in its history.

I embrace today’s judicial triumph with solemnity and humility, full thankfulness to God Almighty, a strong feeling of duty, and a strong willingness to meet the enormous problems that face our people.

Today’s triumph has given me even more energy and reaffirmed my resolve to serve Nigerians of all political stripes, tribes, and religions with honor and utmost respect for their differing viewpoints and shared values.

I will keep working day and night to create a Nigeria that fulfills our shared hopes and dreams. Our Renewed Hope agenda for a more powerful and prosperous Nigeria has acquired even more traction.

Since we are all part of the same home, it is imperative that we work together to continue building our nation. Now, we must be driven to move forward in channeling the energy of our people into creating a more robust, united, prosperous nation by the power of our diversity and the wonderful citizenship that unites us.

I’m hoping that in the next days and months, a greater sense of patriotism will lead to support for our administration’s efforts to raise Nigerians’ standard of life. I’m ready to embrace everyone in Nigeria for their efforts to advancing and fortifying our shared progress.

I sincerely thank every Nigerian for the mandate to serve our nation. I reaffirm my commitment to work with my team, relying on God’s grace, to meet and surpass your standards in service delivery and good governance.

Martins Esin was elected to the House of Representatives for the Oron/Mbo/Okobo/Udung Uko/Urueoffong Oruko Federal Constituency in February 2023. This decision was upheld by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Akwa Ibom state on Thursday. The Court of Appeal is located at the National Industrial Court Complex in Lagos State.

A cost of five hundred thousand naira was also granted by the three-member panel of justice in favor of each respondent, Esin, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), against the appellant.

Remember how the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Robinson Edumoh, who lost the February elections, led the petitioners to the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal to contest the poll’s results?

On September 1, 2023, the panel presided over by Justice Kudirat Jose dismissed Edumoh’s petition, finding that the petitioner was unable to substantiate any of his claims regarding excessive voting, failure to transmit results electronically, pervasive irregularities, and failure to comply with Electoral Act legislation.

Feeling let down by the decision, the APC candidate went to the higher court, requesting that the tribunal’s decision be overturned.

The PDP candidate, Esin, was declared the legitimate victor of the election by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, and the Court of Appeal maintained this decision, ruling that there was no basis to reverse the lower court’s decision.

“Here, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Hon. Martins Esin are the respondents, and they are all given a cost of five hundred thousand naira against the appellant.”

The removal of Timipre Sylva’s name from the list of candidates for the Bayelsa State governorship election on November 11 has prompted a response from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Tuesday saw the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) take Sylva’s and his running mate Joshua Maciver’s names off the most recent list that was posted on its website.

According to reports, INEC had removed Slyva’s name from the list of candidates in accordance with a Federal High Court decision that disqualified him from the contest.

However, in response, Perry Tukuwei, the spokesman for the Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, stated in a statement on Wednesday that the removal of Slyva’s name was a brief setback and shouldn’t worry party members.

According to Tukuwei, the party’s attorneys had appealed the court’s ruling and requested a stay of the judgment’s execution while they awaited the result of the appeal.

He continued by saying that the party anticipates winning in the end at the Court of Appeal.

The official statement is as follows: “The Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign hereby urges our dear people of Bayelsa to remain optimistic and focused on winning the Nov. 11 governorship election, despite the recent political upheavals.”

Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, has expressed concern about the high rate of waste in government, particularly at the federal level, and he has threatened to bring the nation closer to further difficulties if it does not take intentional action to reduce waste.
In addition, he listed the benefits of the e-governance system implemented by his administration and advocated for the digitalization of all government operations nationwide to guarantee cost-effectiveness and transparency.

According to his Special Advisor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki participated in a panel discussion yesterday at the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja, at a plenary session titled “Reinventing Government: Digitalization of Public Institutions.”
“We need to reinvent governance,” declared the governor of Edo. Government cannot be reinvented until its processes are digitalized and made accessible. It is our only choice. We must operate effectively.

“In order to support production, we must be efficient. particularly in the federal government. We will run into problems if we don’t make changes because the waste is excessive. Actually, we are already in trouble, and things will get worse if we don’t change.

Speaking at the occasion about his experience with Edo e-governance, Obaseki stated that political leaders’ political will and commitment were necessary for the digitalization of government due to civil workers’ reluctance.

He observed that, occasionally, even when a political leader had a well-thought-out and admirable program, it was difficult to convince civil personnel to carry it out; in his case, he had to be persistent.
The governor claimed that prior to Edo State’s digitalization initiative, public officials, civil workers, and the executive branch functioned independently, but that things have since changed.
