President Bola Tinubu has drawn criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate for 2023, Atiku Abubakar, for bringing a sizable entourage to the ongoing COP28 Climate Change Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

With his enormous entourage, Atiku said Tinubu converted the global change conference into a “Owambe” all-comers jamboree.

Paul Ibe, Atiku’s spokesperson, stated in a statement that Tinubu was unaware of the severity of the economic catastrophe Nigeria is currently experiencing as a result of his misguided economic policies.

The COP28 conference, according to Atiku, is not for a jamboree party but rather for bettering lives, clean air and water, good food for everyone, nature, and a safe and secure future.

How would the leader of a government transform a climate change conference into an open-to-all, jam-packed “owambe” party with over 1,400 delegates, according to Atiku? From a governing perspective, it is absurd and another evidence that he is still asleep.

Because of its severe economic conditions, Nigeria’s leaders are forced to cut their coats to fit the available material. We are not going to be able to afford to keep borrowing money to have a street celebration abroad.

The head of the Nigerian delegation needs to be reminded that the purpose of COP28UAE is not to host a jamboree of more than 1,400 Owambe delegates, but rather to improve lives, promote healthy eating and air and water quality, and protect the environment for the benefit of all people.

The Benue State All Progressives Congress, or APC, has revealed that it has discovered attempts by state government operatives to organize a demonstration against President Bola Tinubu in order to prevent funding from being withheld from local governments in Benue and other states throughout the nation that lack democratic systems.

The party’s publicity secretary, Mr. Daniel Ihomun, made a statement that included this information.

“The protest is also allegedly directed towards the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who oversaw the Senate plenary that approved the resolution,” Ihomun clarified. “It also targets the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the APC leader in Benue, who has been the target of malicious accusations in the State by miscreants.”

The initial test step in this well-planned scheme was to demand Comrade Austin Agada, the State Party Chairman, step down without providing a valid resignation letter.

“The party sees this act of sabotage as foreboding grave danger to the unity of the state and the party, should individuals claiming APC membership and employed by APC state governments openly undermine their President, the Senate President, and the SGF in their attempt to stifle the government’s authority on a legal matter.”

“Taking steps that would embarrass Mr. President and his administration is unacceptable and must be halted,” he continued, “even though the organizers are free to express themselves.”

He stated, “The party therefore calls on the Inspector General of Police and the Benue State Commissioner of Police to monitor closely this planned protest which may wear a semblance of solidarity march but with a sinister end motive.” in light of this development.

Governor Hyacinth Alia was encouraged by him to keep an eye on the actions of dishonest people in his administration who are abusing his name to commit crimes that could devastate the state.

Ihomun issued a warning to state security agencies to remain vigilant.

Nigerian citizens can be reassured by Hon. Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Youths in Parliament, that their country will be back on the international map.

With the intention of educating and enlightening young people in Parliament nationwide about peaceful relationships, Hon. Alao-Akala, who provided the assurance during the Committee’s inauguration, announced plans to organize the first annual Youths in Parliament conference.

In accordance with the Standing Rules of the 10th Assembly, he states, the Committee is tasked with “establishing good policies on parliamentarian research and documentation and ensuring efficient databank of youths in national and state Assemblies; oversight and monitoring of youths in Parliament; ensuring harmonious relationship between the young legislators in the national and state Assemblies.”

The Committee is also expected to suggest to the House the creation of any youth Parliamentary groups, organize national and international conferences, workshops, and other forums for the education of youth in Parliament, and advise the House on whether it is appropriate for the House to send a youth delegation to particular inter-parliamentary events.

He guaranteed that the youthful lawmakers would prioritize matters affecting national development, although pointing out that the people who voted for youngsters in Parliament represent a wide range of ages.

Because the people we voted for are young people, we represent a large demographic of young people, and they look up to us. What will they do? In what way do they effectively represent us? I inform them again that we are a very large community, and that the only people who did not vote for us were the kids.

In revealing the Committee’s intentions to host conferences for youthful lawmakers at State Houses of Assemblies throughout all 36 States of the Federation, he declared: “We are Representatives with a difference; Nigeria should know that we are prepared to restore Nigeria’s standing both economically and infrastructure-wise, as well as in every other manner that we can.”

As we approach this Committee, we should come with our best faces on display and be glad to inform Nigerians that we are young people. That is how we can show how much God has done for us.

Being admitted into the holy chamber at this age is no laughing matter, according to Hon. Sesi Oluwaseun (APC-Lagos). Considering the quantity of youthful lawmakers present, I believe it’s critical that we take use of this and unite in our individuality and harmony.

Nobody can predict the future or the day ahead of us. However, we could be able to maintain this friendship for a very long period, if not for the rest of our lives. In light of this, this Committee is crucial, particularly for aspiring legislators. It gives us a place to get together, have a conversation about ourselves, our development, and then start forming bonds.

“This fantastic Committee will produce so many amazing things, I’m sure of it. If we do not wish to fool ourselves, age is on our side. Our destiny and this nation’s destiny are ours. No matter what choices our elected officials make, most of them are made on our behalf, not theirs.

The political landscape in Nigeria is about to shift, as I previously stated, and all who care about it should be aware of this. The bulk of those in charge of affairs now would eventually grow weary and take a seat, turn around, and glance at us if you were to take a detached glance at them. The burden of governing a nation the size of Nigeria would then fall on us.

Danladi Jatau, a legislator from Kokona West Constituency, was unanimously chosen as the Nasarawa State House of Assembly’s speaker on Friday.

Additionally chosen to the position of Deputy Speaker is Mohammed Oyanki, the MP for Doma North Constituency.

According to reports, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the previous speaker, was fired by the Court of Appeal in Abuja a few days before to this incident.

Oyanki, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Jatua, the newly chosen Speaker of the All Progressives Congress (APC), reportedly collaborated to ensure that Oyanki became the head of the state assembly in order to maintain harmony within the state legislature.

A review of the Abuja Court of Appeal’s ruling, which certified Governor Abdullahi Sule’s win in the 2023 governorship race, has been requested by the PDP’s Nasarawa State chapter in an appeal to the Supreme Court.

At first, Sule’s victory was declared void by the state election petitions tribunal, which declared David Ombugadu of the PDP the victor.

The tribunal erred in its vote re-computation and declaration, the appellate court eventually said, affirming Sule as the legitimate governor.

During a nonviolent demonstration in Lafia, Stella Oboshi, the PDP’s women’s leader in Nasarawa, voiced her worries over the ruling of the appellate court.

The significance of democracy in Nigeria was emphasized as she contended that the ruling went against democratic norms and demanded that the Supreme Court conduct a full investigation of the issue.

The ruling of the Court of Appeal, which disqualified Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf from running for office due to suspected certificate fraud, was challenged by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in a two-ground cross-appeal petition to the Supreme Court.

Two grounds were listed by the party in its cross-appeal in the appeal notice that Akin Olujinmi, the attorney for the APC, filed on Wednesday.
As stated on page 11 of the ruling, the Lower Court made a legal error.

It is not useful to the cross-appellant for the 2nd Cross Respondent to know whether or not its Form EC9 exhibit meets the requirements for a certificate under Section 182[1] [j] of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 [as amended] Olujinmi stated.

Olujinmi elaborated, citing specific examples of the judgment’s flaws, saying, “A decision on it goes to the issue on non-qualification of the 2nd cross-respondent to contest the election in dispute in this appeal, contrary to the holding of the lower court.”

But, in order to permit the cross-appeal, the APC requested a Supreme Court ruling.

As you may remember, the Court of Appeal upheld the Kano State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling a few weeks prior.

Kano’s March 18 governor’s race was pronounced won by APC candidate Nasiru Gawuna, according to the court.

But in the certified authentic copy of the judgment that was made public four days later, the appellate court partially overturned its ruling.
