The Economic Community Of West African States said on Sunday it was continuing sanctions on Niger’s military dictatorship imposed after a July coup, saying progress on the transition to civilian rule was needed to lift the penalties.
ECOWAS Commission President Omar Touray stated a commission of Benin, Togo, and Sierra Leone would interact with Niger military rulers to deliberate on relaxing sanctions.
In addition to 65 other students receiving free housing as part of the university’s scholarship programs, 840 students received tuition-free scholarships from Lead City University for the 2022–2023 academic year.
The scholarship grants were valued at N322, 606,250.00, or three hundred and twenty-two million, six hundred, and six thousand, two hundred and fifty naira.
During a press conference on the institution’s post-16 convocation over the weekend, Lead City University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, revealed this to the media.
He noted that in order to provide financial support to worthy students who encounter financial difficulties, Lead City University has established a number of scholarship programs.
With effect from January 1, 2023, Adeyemo’s term has been extended by a further five years.

Nigerian Breweries Plc has stated that Mr. Asue Ighodalo, the chairman, has resigned, altering the makeup of the board of directors.
This was announced to the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. on Friday in Lagos by the company secretary, Mr. Uaboi Agbebaku.
According to Agbebaku, Ighodalo notified the business of his intention to step down and volunteer for public service.

The agitator for the Yoruba nation, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also referred to as Sunday Igboho, has reiterated the goal of his movement to establish an independent Yoruba nation, even in the face of the election of a Yoruba president.
In an interview, Igboho stated his stance.
When questioned about abandoning the sovereignty movement when Yoruba President Bola Tinubu gained office, Igboho stated that his Ilana Omo Oodua group had started agitating well in advance of Tinubu’s election.
“Even after President Bola Tinubu emerged, we haven’t given up on our agitation for the Yoruba country. Long before Tinubu secured the All Progressives Congress presidential ticket, we had been engaged in this movement.
“We are not agitating because a Yoruba man was elected president of the nation. He stated, “We will continue to fight for the realization of the Yoruba nation even after Tinubu became president because he is a Yoruba man.”
Igboho added that although his group has been less visible lately, they are still actively advancing the cause and that the UN is periodically updated on the developments.

Igboho answered criticism that he was not qualified to lead the fight for self-determination.
“In this conflict, no one has the exclusive authority. We have leaders like Prof. Akintoye, but my detractors are unable to ascertain what is necessary to spearhead this effort in a lawful and peaceful manner,” he said.
Taiwo Oyekanmi was the former Director of Finance and Administration in the Oke-Mosan Abeokuta office of Governor Dapo Abiodun. On Friday, the Ogun State government announced a N50 million reward for information that leads to the capture of Oyekanmi’s killers.

Dead: Kokori, a well-known APC chieftain
Relatedly, it has been reported that Frank Kokori, an aging statesman and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has passed away.
It was understood that the deceased individual, who was 80 years old on Thursday, December 7, 2023, died at precisely 1:30 am. He was the former General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG).
Tribune reports that Atawada Barry Oke, Kokori’s personal aide, revealed his passage at around 2:30 in the morning.
As the former labor leader was put on life support, Oke said that the former leader’s health worsened on Monday, preventing him from interacting with those around him.
