Blackout in Kaduna, three different northern states

0

Workers of the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company have embarked on an industrial action, leaving residents of Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states in darkness.

The workers, under the aegis of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees, commenced an indefinite strike on Tuesday after staging a protest over what they termed unjust treatment by the management of the company.

The According gathered that the workers were aggrieved over six years’ unremitted pension, non-payment of the death benefit of deceased staff of the company, non-payment of exit package, the unjust sack of seven staff of the firm in Zaria, and an alleged plan to sack over 1,000 workers of the company, among others.

However, the management of Kaduna Disco condemned the industrial action in a statement issued by its Head of Corporate Communication, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, describing the action as “completely unjustified.”

Abdulazeez said, “For the union to choose this path at the very start of the holy month of Ramadan and inflict more discomfort on hapless Nigerians by embarking on an ill-advised strike and forcing staff from carrying out their legitimate duties says a lot about its motive.”

Abdulazeez disclosed that the union’s demand for payment of outstanding pension arrears “is part of the historic debts accumulated under two previous managements.

“One wonders why the union failed to prioritise the payments then until now. This is a clear indication that the union has other motives yet unknown to us.”

New tokens constantly rise to take on the old guard in the volatile meme coin space. KangaMoon (KANG) is one contender that’s been exciting for analysts with its moves. It has surged by 125% during its ongoing presale (now in Stage 3) while raising over $950K. With hints of a 100x pump in 2024, it could even outshine Shiba Inu (SHIB).

KangaMoon (KANG): A Community-Driven Meme Coin

KangaMoon (KANG) is making waves in the meme coin market. It has raised an impressive $950K in weeks with its presale so far and is set to hit $1,000,000. Additionally, KangaMoon recently announced a Meme Lord contest, in which users can win up to $150 in KANG by creating memes and tagging them with #KangMeme.

Community engagement is KangaMoon’s most important aspect. For people who want free KANG tokens right now, KangaMoon offers them by actively engaging in its community. To clarify, you can earn KANG during its presale by sharing KangaMoon posts, tweeting, commenting, and more. This should attract the best community to any meme coin.

Setting itself apart from most other meme coins, KangaMoon has real utility. KANG will become the main currency of the upcoming KangaMoon play-to-earn (P2E) game. Given that the P2E NFT games market was worth $329M in 2022 and may reach $885M by 2028 (as per Yahoo Finance), KangaMoon could capitalize on this growth and rule this market.

This one-of-a-kind meme coin is in Stage 3 of its presale with a price of only $0.01125. Those who bought this crypto early on are enjoying a 125% ROI. However, industry experts believe that this project is still just getting started. They anticipate a 100x pump once a Tier-1 CEX lists this meme coin in Q2 of 2024 – making it one of the best meme coins to watch.

Rekt Capital: Shiba Inu (SHIB) To Revisit Old All-Time Highs

Recently, Shiba Inu (SHIB) has been on an upward trajectory. According to CoinMarketCap data, the Shiba Inu price surged from $0.000008892 to $0.00003435 over the last 30 days, and its market cap also grew from $5.31B to $20.25B in that period.

Even crypto analyst Rekt Capital made some bullish statements about this crypto. In his tweet, he stated that the Shiba Inu coin will revisit its old all-time highs and complete its U-shaped reversal. This all-time high is $0.000088, which SHIB hit in October 2021.

From a technical analysis perspective, this member of the meme coin titans will see a surge soon. In other words, 25 technical indicators are flashing green for Shiba Inu. Because of all these reasons, experts in the crypto field have made a bullish Shiba Inu price prediction. They forecast a value increase to $0.000059 within Q2 of 2024.

Can KangaMoon Outshine Shiba Inu?

KangaMoon’s market cap is $11.25M, which is small compared to Shiba Inu’s. With fewer new funds needed to increase its price, KANG is primed for a breakthrough. It could outpace SHIB in terms of growth. Therefore, KangaMoon is one of the top new meme tokens to keep on your radar in 2024 if you are looking for fast returns.

Mom seeks monetary help to deal with five-year-old daughter’s fractured leg

0

A 35-year-old mother of two, Adesewa Adeoye, is seeking financial support to take care of her five-year-old daughter, Eniola, who has been enduring excruciating pain due to a fracture she sustained on her leg while playing with her mates.

Adeoye, who resides in Igara town in the Akoko Local Government Area of Edo State told According Online that Eniola’s ordeal began in October 2023 when she started limping and having difficulties walking.

She said what started with a minor pain has resulted in unbearable pain and her daughter not being able to walk.

She added that her daughter’s education is on hold as she can no longer go to school, adding that the primary one pupil weeps daily when she sees her mates going to school.

She added that efforts by bonesetters to help her daughter proved abortive as there was no form of improvement.

She said, “My daughter mistakenly hit her leg on the ground while playing in 2023 and has since been unable to stand on her foot.

“I noticed her leg swelling two days after she fell and we have since been treating the leg which continues to swell.

“I took her to bonesetters but after two months of treatment without any form of improvement, I was advised to take her to the hospital.

“We were told to go for an x-ray which we did and seeing the result, the doctor said we needed to treat it and put it in POP.”

Although she was assured that her daughter’s leg would be healed, she said she needed money and that her family could not afford the bill from what she earns from frying garri.

“At first, we were able to raise some money to get the POP fixed and got her some medications as prescribed by the doctor.

“However, we have not been able to continue the treatment since we stopped in December as we could not raise any substantial amount of money and my daughter is in severe pain. She needs help,” she added.

Hospital report

Speaking on Eniola’s condition, a consultant radiologist, Dr Alfred Tume, said she needs regular treatment for at least six months to be able to walk again, however, noting that the amount required cannot be specified.

“She has to be stabilised but they have not been coming for treatment regularly because the injury she had has affected her leg bones and she needs medical attention always. The last time they came was in late December. Had she been coming to the hospital regularly for treatment before six months, she would have regained her footing.

“If the leg is not treated properly, it might resort to something more severe. I think they stopped coming for treatment because of funds but she needs the treatment as soon as possible. So, it is the constant treatment she needs to improve within five to six months,” Tume said.

Adeoye, therefore, called on good-spirited individuals and groups to support her family and raise funds for her child’s treatment.

Merchants making meals costs insufferable, LG chair laments

0

The Chairman of Bariga Local Government Area of Lagos State, Kolade David, has blamed individuals he referred to as ‘price gougers’ as those responsible for the ongoing hike in food prices.

The LG boss noted that those who take advantage of the situation of the country to make a profit at the expense of others contributed to the prices of food commodities that keep skyrocketing.

Speaking at an intervention programme organised by the council to provide health and financial support for the residents of the local government, David expressed concern about how the economic downturn is affecting people, particularly with food costs growing at an alarming rate.

He stated that there is a growing sense of frustration and anger, as many people are struggling to make ends meet.

He noted that the economic crisis is having a profound impact on the lives of ordinary people, adding that it is causing increasing levels of stress and anxiety.

To lessen the burden of economic hardship on Nigerians, the LG boss urged the government to control pricing and end profiteering.

The LG chair, however, said the council decided to give N20,000 to 1,000 Bariga indigents to cushion the effect of the economic hardship in the country.

He added that 100 pregnant women and another 1,000 residents would benefit from a health intervention and health insurance scheme introduced by the council.

While lamenting that basic necessities like food have become unaffordable for many residents, David said the council would set up marketplaces in each of the eight LG wards for food items to be sold at discounted costs.

He added, “We have selected 1,000 that would be given N20,000 to cushion the effect of the economic hardship. It may appear small, but I know it will do something meaningful in our household.

“After this cash intervention, we are going to roll out another 1,000. The committee will go out and select another 1,000 residents across the eight wards in the LG.

“The committee will select 100 pregnant women from primary health centres and medium-sized private hospitals for our free health intervention.”

In his remarks, the chairman of the Bariga intervention committee, Segun Adesanya said 1,000 cash beneficiaries were selected from all 446 streets in the council.

He noted that the selection process was fair, as people with disabilities, the aged and the poorest in the LG were prioritised as beneficiaries.

“Everybody that is here is because they merit the qualification. We are so diligent about what we are doing and we were fair in the selection of people that are to benefit from this programme,” Adesanya noted.

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in February, announced a 25 per cent rebate on fares for government-owned transport schemes as a way to reduce the economic burden on Lagosians.

The governor said the state would be exploring three major avenues to ensure Lagosians get affordable foodstuffs to ease the economic burden.

Ex-lawmaker urges Muslims to indicate love

0

A former member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, on Tuesday, urged Muslims to extend acts of charity to fellow Muslims who are in need during this Ramadan period.

Peller, in his goodwill message to Muslims on the commencement of the 2024 (1445 AH) Ramadan fast, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, reminded them that every month of Ramadan presents a rare opportunity to purify one’s body and soul.

Peller, who represented Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency of Oyo State at the Ninth National Assembly, also advised them to leverage the momentum of the holy month to pray for Nigeria and her leaders, adding that there is a need to support them with prayers so that they can lead the country in the right direction.

He said, “Best wishes to fellow Muslim brothers and sisters, home and in the diaspora, as we commence Ramadan fast for the year 2024 (1445 AH). One of the benefits of Ramadan is that it presents to us an opportunity to purify our mind, body and soul as well as an opportunity to reach out to the less privileged in whatever way we can. So, we must put this into use as we fast, particularly considering the economic hardship that we are presently confronted with as a nation.

“Also, I urge us all to seize the opportunity of this Holy Month to pray for Nigeria and our leaders. We must support them with prayers that God purifies their souls and guides them right so that they can lead us to a better Nigeria.

“Once again, I wish everyone of us a blessed Ramadan and pray that God strengthens in all ways and accepts all our good deeds as an act of Ibadah. Aaamin. Ramadan Mubarak.”

Gumi gives to barter with bandits

0

Kaduna-based Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has revealed his intention to dialogue with bandits who abducted about 287 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

Gumi said this in a bid to facilitate the release of the abducted schoolchildren should President Bola Tinubu give him the opportunity to negotiate.

According to the prominent Islamic scholar, Tinubu must not repeat the mistake made by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to dialogue with bandits.

The According reports that bandits invaded the Kuriga area of the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, shooting at their victims before taking away at least 280 of the pupils and teachers from both schools.

The incident occurred barely 24 hours after insurgents abducted 200 internally displaced women in Borno State.

The women were kidnapped in Ngala, the headquarters of Gambarou Ngala in Borno State, while fetching firewood in the bush.

Penultimate Thursday, bandits invaded the Gonin-Gora in the same Chikun LGA, prompting residents to barricade the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway in protest against the abduction of an unspecified number of people in the area.

Meanwhile, the government of the affected state has refused to dialogue with the bandits to release the schoolchildren and has also refuted claims that it had hired a private negotiator to facilitate the release of the victims.

However, reacting to the development, Gumi said in a statement, “The government’s stand of no negotiation with the bandits is an unfortunate position. My advice is that the government should dialogue with the bandits not only for these Kuriga school children’s abductions but all cases.

“Also, the government should use the same approach it used in releasing passengers that were abducted on the Abuja–Kaduna train in 2022 to release the Kuriga school children and others.

“I am ready to lead a holistic dialogue between the government and bandits. It is my religious duty to do so for peace.

“I hope the present government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will listen by dialoguing with the bandits because the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari refused to do so.”

Gumi had previously negotiated on behalf of state governments to free abducted people by bandits.

In May 2021, one of the parents of the kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna State, said rather than point an accusing finger at Gumi for being complicit in the banditry ravaging the country, Nigerians should commend the cleric for his interventions in seeking the release of abducted persons in the country.

200 ladies get N4m grant, PoS machine in Edo

0

The Edo State Government, through the Ministry of Social Development and Gender Issue, has empowered 200 women with a Point of Sale machine and N4m as a start-off grant.

The ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Osato Ekhator, who disclosed this on Monday, said the scheme was part of activities to mark the International Women’s Day, which was held on Friday.

She said that 75 women got their POS and grants on Friday while an additional 125 would start getting theirs this week.

She noted that the gesture is expected to help the women become independent.

She added that the programme was done in conjunction with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Wema Bank and other partners who are passionate about women’s empowerment.

“The Edo State Government has ensured that 200 women benefitted from this programme. Seventy-five got their POS machine on Friday with the N20,000 grant each while others will get theirs this week.

“Hopefully, it will help them become self-sufficient as they navigate this ever-changing world”, she said.

On his part, the coordinator, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, Joel Zombu, noted that GIZ has implemented a lot to empower women in different spheres, as well as contributing to gender policies with the ministry.

He added that GIZ has been in collaboration with Nigeria for 50 years and also empowering MSMEs, youths and women to run their businesses better.

Asian markets push larger as US inflation knowledge looms

0

Asian markets mostly rose Tuesday following the previous day’s sell-off, with focus on the release of US inflation data that could play a key role in the Federal Reserve’s decision-making on cutting interest rates.

The broadly upbeat performance came despite a tepid showing on Wall Street, and with analysts warning the recent rally across equities could stall as investors lock in profits and assess the outlook for monetary policy.

According to an AFP report on Tuesday, there is a lot of nervousness on trading floors ahead of the February consumer price index report due later in the day after a surprise uptick in January that dented hopes the central bank would begin cutting rates sooner rather than later.

Futures traders are now betting on three reductions this year, compared with the six forecast at the start of the year.

“It is imperative to avoid a repeat of the last CPI release,” SPI Asset Management’s Stephen Innes told AFP.

“Another report similar to January’s could raise doubts about the Fed’s rate cut wisdom in 2024. If the inflation dragon shows up again, it will not sit well with risk appetite.”

Hong Kong pressed ahead with its recent advance, helped by fresh buying of tech firms and following above-forecast Chinese inflation data at the weekend that soothed worries about the country’s economy.

Electronics giant, Xiaomi surged more than 10 per cent after saying it will start deliveries of its first electric vehicle by the end of this month.

There were also gains in Sydney, Seoul, Singapore, Taipei, Mumbai and Manila.

However, Tokyo drops again as speculation swirls that the Bank of Japan will next week shift away from its ultra-loose monetary policy that has helped strengthen the yen.

Shanghai, Wellington and Bangkok also fell.

Traders brushed off a broadly negative day on Wall Street, where investors have pushed equities to multiple record highs this year, and analysts suggested the rally could peter out.

“Stocks are likely overdue for some consolidation or even an extended period of modest declines at some point in the year,” Anthony Saglimbene at Ameriprise said.

“Without a meaningful shift in the fundamental picture, we suspect investors would welcome such a downdraft and treat the event as a buying opportunity.”

The prospect of US interest rates coming down this year has played a role in pushing bitcoin to new record highs, with the cryptocurrency peaking at $72,880.

Moves by US authorities and now regulators in Britain to allow exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for the unit have also provided support, opening it up to new classes of investors.
