First lady extols 1st Nigerian female British military academy graduate Newsdiaryonline

0

The First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu has commended Second Lt. Oluchukwu Owowoh for emerging as the first Nigerian female cadet to graduate from the Royal Military Academy (RMA), Sandhurst, United Kingdom.

Mrs Tinubu, who received Owowoh, led by Maj.-Gen. John Ochia, the Commandant, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), to the State House on Monday described her achievement as outstanding and divine.

“Your story is that of aspiration, resilient and determination, really, your case is divine; it is not because you studied very hard but because God selected you for a purpose.

“It is going to be from glory to glory, that is why we are here to celebrate you for what you have done, and I know that you still have more worlds ahead of you.

“I pray that goodness and mercy will continue to follow you. The nation would continually celebrate you because of what you have done.

Oluremi also commended the Nigeria Army for giving a female, the chance to excel.

“I want to thank the Nigerian Army for giving you that opportunity, for realising that this is your time and you did not disappoint them.

“You have opened doors for other women so that they can look at them and given them a trial.

“I pray that God will teach you every step of the way, how to behave and you will bring joy to your generation and generation unborn because you have become a reference.

Oluremi further encouraged the nation’s youth to emulate Owowoh’ resiliency and caution them to desist from being destructive, lousy and problematic.

She however, recommended Owowoh for a national award and encouraged her superiors to encourage her to become a youth advocate for others to learn positively from her.

Earlier, Ochai had said that Owowoh’s outstanding performance, marks history amidst countries like India, Pakistan, Qatar, UK, Canada, Australia and others, who brought their best to be trained in that institution where she succeeded.

He said that Owowoh was subjected to rigorous trainings and that she exceled. “If she was male, we would have left it at that but because she is a female we tested her and she came first in academics, even in the physical training, she went through a tough  process until her male colleagues even noticed that we do not have to go further.

“In the male dominant profession like this, in the Army in particular, what is significant about her graduation is that the RMA, is one of the oldest military training institutions for the training of officers for armed forces of countries in the commonwealth and UK.

“ The significance of Owowoh’s case is that, in the cause of the training, we selected the best; she surpassed the record of over 200 male cadet officers, when we did the selection, she came first and we doubted her.

“Secondly, she is going on a global skill, are we going to risk putting her there and probably if she eventually did not graduate, then it will be an embarrassment to the nation, we subjected her to another test and she came first again.

“In that academy, gender is not given preference to, as a matter of fact even in their accommodation, they share other facilities and control the same training, no concession, if you fail at any point you will drop and she came out as the best.

“It is on that note that I wish to present Owowoh to you,’’ Ochai said.

Mrs Oghogho Musa, the President of Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association, (DEPOWA), on behalf of other officer’s wives associates, who also accompanied the celebrant, appreciated the Nigerian Army for giving Owowoh the chance to shine.

“We are sincerely grateful, today, our hearts are full with gladness because like the commandant said, the NDA is dominated by men and our sister excelled  and became the overall best.

“We are grateful to God for giving us such a brilliant officer and keeping the flag flying for us. As women, we are happy that the inclusions we are talking about, we are seeing the result now.’’

Musa said that her success would create rooms for more women in the military to be included in key decision making and get involved in other notable exercises.

Owowoh in her response, expressed gladness and gratitude for the supports she got, saying that “the nation should expect greater things from her.

“I feel honoured, I am overwhelmed because this does not come like an everyday breakfast. It comes due to my hard work, dedication, God’s grace and mentorship from my officers and my parent’s advice, all this come together for me to be where I am today.

“Nigeria should expect the best from me; I will give in my best in my capacity with the help of God and with the Nigeria Army giving me the backup that is required.

“I will also try to learn what is specific to my, field, to my corps and try my best to deliver what I can.’’

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Owowoh, a 23-year officer of the Nigerian Armed Forces, graduated from RMA in a colourful sovereign parade on April 12.

She was a member 70 Regular Course before she proceeded to the RMA for training. Owowoh passed out as second lieutenant alongside 24 other International Cadets with honours and was recognized for her exceptional  performance during her time at the RMA.

Army tasks commanders on effective operational analysis,

0

The Nigerian Army has charged its operational commanders, and those of other security agencies, to ensure effective operational analysis and adaptability in tackling the nation’s security challenges.

The Director Consult, Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC), Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Ndalolo, made the call at the opening of a week-long Army Headquarters (AHQ) Garrison Operations Planning Cadre 2024, on Monday in Abuja.

The event has the theme, “Sustaining Capacity Building and Mult-Agency Cooperation: An Approach to Defeating Insurgency and Terrorism in Nigeria.”

He said the security threats facing the country were complex and multifaceted in nature, hence, the need for predictive effort to overcome them.

National growth LS

Ndalolo said the complexities of the security of Nigeria’s environment had affected modern warfighting, which demanded meticulous operational planning to achieve the desired result.

According to him, since contemporary threats transcend the domain of any particular security agency, it is advised that operations planning is best done in a multi agency setting.

He commended the Nigerian Army for recalibrating its cooperation with sister security agencies and paramilitary organisations to ensure the safety and defence of the country.

“Training together, working together, sharing knowledge, and deploying diverse expertise by all the security agencies will help to achieve better outcomes than an individual agency’s effort.

“Let the security agencies refresh themselves with the basics of operational planning and mix implementation.

“Remember, your dedication, professionalism and commitment to keeping our nation secure and safe is a sworn duty we all owe Nigerians,” he said.

Ndalolo said the essence of the cadre was to sharpen the skills of the participants in operational arts and campaign planning, and in a multi-agency setting.

He added that the event would help them to be able to plan and execute operations in a robust manner that would ensure that the mission’s success would be accomplished easily.

“This is possible because the essentials that are required – to analyse, strategise, adapt and react – will be at their fingertips,” he said.

Earlier, the Commander, AHQ Garrison, Maj.-Gen. Koko Isoni, said operations planning played a crucial role in ensuring the success of any military operation.

Isoni said the cadre had brought together tactical and operational level officers from various Nigerian Army formations, sister services, security agencies and paramilitary organisations within AHQ Garrison area of responsibility.

He said the cadre was tailored towards refreshing participants on the various aspects of operations planning process so as to enhance their skills in operational arts and campaign planning.

According to him, the planning cadre is designed to improve participants’ ability to think critically, anticipate potential obstacles, and develop innovative and achievable courses of action to accomplish the operational end state within a joint environment.

“It is crucial to recognise the ever evolving nature of warfare and the challenges we have struggled with where our adversaries are becoming increasingly evasive, innovative and sophisticated.

“But we must adapt accordingly and neutralise them completely in light of their formation.

“Armies world over are continually engaged in training and capacity building to enable them triumph over contemporary security challenges.

“To this end, the Nigerian Army equally recognises these challenges and therefore seeks to develop capacity through realistic training aimed at enhancing its operations.

“Additionally, army headquarters’ garrison experience in various engagements have helped us draw lessons and identify gaps in the conduct of operations.

“To this end, this year’s operations planning cadre is expected to amplify existing efforts by the garrison in collaboration with other sister agencies and paramilitary organisations to meet its operational end state,” he said. (NAN)

Project monitoring, evaluation key to successful outcomes – Cardoso Newsdiaryonline

0

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), says monitoring and evaluation of development projects is crucial to the overall success of such projects.

Cardoso said this on Monday in Abuja at the opening of a regional workshop on Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation organised by the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management (WAIFEM).

The CBN governor was represented by Dr Yusuf Bulus of the monetary policy department of the CBN.

According to him, the world today is tense with challenges across all sectors.

National growth LS

“Resources are increasingly becoming inadequate to address these emerging challenges.

“Managing scarce resources has become very necessary in a very tight fiscal environment which is characterised by growing human conflict, geo-economics fragmentation, cost of living crunch, and climate change.

“These conditions have put pressure on public finances, and government has to implement fiscal measures to balance competing priorities with available resources,’’ he said.

He said that as government and organisations assessed, designed, and implemented crucial interventions, an important component of project management and implementation that required due attention was the monitoring and evaluation design.

“The monitoring and evaluation framework is the foundation of any development project and is key to its successful implementation and in achieving envisaged project goals and objectives,’’ he said.

The Director-General of WAIFEM, Dr Baba Musa, said that the success of projects depended on the identification of the defining moments throughout the phases of the project execution.

Musa said that this encompassed the life circle of the project, which includes initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, evaluation, and closure.

According to him, you can perform an evaluation test aft

er every phase to ensure that progress is sustained up to the end of the project.

“Poor management of project outcome can result in the objectives of the project not being realised.

“Monitoring and evaluation are in this regards, a continuous management function to assess if progress is made in achieving expected results.

“They will also help to spot bottlenecks in implementation and highlight whether there are any unintended effects or risks,’’ he said.

According to hom, the workshop is expected to equip participants with skills in setting up and implementing projects on how the monitoring and evaluation system worked.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that WAIFEM is a collaborative sub-regional capacity building organisation established in July 1996 by the central banks of five Anglophone West African countries.

Its mission is to develop human and institutional expertise in the field of macroeconomic, fiscal, debt and financial management for central banks and other relevant MDAs. (NAN)

Olatunji-Bello said that for this reason, the management of the university was committed to the goals and aspirations of the ACE-Impact Project.

“We have continued to sustain and improve the academic and administrative performance of the Centre.

“Since the establishment of the Centre in 2018, it has continued to play a key role in capacity building, not only for registered students of the centre but also for the other students and indeed, staff of the University,”she said.

Olatunji-Bello added that the centre had gone offshore in its delivery of short courses.

“The recent training of 311 STEM teachers in Benin Republic, in April this year, is a case in hand,”she said.

Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, Pioneer Director of LASU-ACEITSE said that the project was approved by the World Bank and Federal Government for the training of exemplary, top quality STEM teachers.

Okebukola, also former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), said that so far, the centre had produced, more than ever, masters, PHD, research students in West Africa.

“This laboratory will provide STEM students with hands-on experiences because science is about knowledge, skills.

“I want to specially thank LASU V-C and all the management team and Director of the centre, one of the greatest mathematicians in education, for bringing this vision to reality.

“I want everyone in the country to know that we have the best centre for training top quality teachers in STEM.

“STEM education is for everyone, all we need is to create more awareness for people to be aware by encouraging children to study STEM,”he said.

Okebukola noted that governments should lay down policies for progressive STEM education in Nigeria, which must be implemented and monitored.

Prof. Rasheed Sanni ,Director, LASU-ACEITSE, called on governments at all levels to replicate the STEM education laboratories in different local governments for the benefit of teachers and students.

Sanni said that since the centre started, it had graduated many students, including those for masters and PHD.

“We currently have about 120 students running different courses in science, technology, engineering and mathematics at the centre.

“I urge all students to make good use of this STEM education laboratory in order to improve their training and academics.

“The building has four science education laboratories such as biology, chemistry, physics and ICT, together with other spaces including classrooms, seminar room and so on,”he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that LASU-ACEITSE was supported by the World Bank to promote excellence in the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). (NAN)

No faction in NNPP -Aniebonam

0

Dr Boniface Aniebonam, the founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), says there is not faction in the party.
Aniebonam said this in a statement on Monday in Lagos.
‘’I want to state clearly that I do not know that there is a faction in the NNPP.

‘’The media in particular should please do me a favour and stop referring to me as a leader of a faction in NNPP.
“I am the founder and father of the NNPP since 2002 till date and it is not in contest. I still hold the certificate of registration of the party.

“A faction going by dictionary definition is a small group within a larger group. Therefore, it is Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his followers that were a faction before he was expelled from the NNPP,’’ he said.

Aniebonam added: “I regret that I came with clean mind and at no cost with the NNPP national executive committee and members to help Kwanwkwaso and his kwankwasiya movement to contest elective positions in the 2023 general elections.

“I regret to note the turn of events at the moment but really, there is nothing to worry about, it is my belief that a day shall come when peace shall return to the NNPP.
” It shall never be my intention to lead a faction in a party that i founded, nurtured, financed and supervised its growth and development for 22 years before the entry of Kwankwaso and his kwankwasiya movement.
“It is my belief that the end shall justify the means and coercion, application of nonconformity means do not usually resolve internal crisis.’’
“God’s decision is supreme. It is only God that decides who will be King.
” Under the canopy of NNPP, I am Kwankwaso’s leader”.
Aniebonam urged Nigerians to join hands with President Bola Tinubu to achieve the mantra of new hope for the country.(NAN)
