Ganduje: Kano Will Again Lead in APC Membership Figures in 2027

0

All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Kano State have decided to start publicly endorsing President Bola Tinubu as the party’s only presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, according to former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

According to reports, Ganduje made the statement during the last meeting of a four-day strategy meeting that he hosted at his Kano home. The meeting included APC chairmen, caucus members, and important stakeholders from all 44 local government areas.

According to Ganduje, the meetings were intended to improve internal cohesiveness and restore trust within the party in front of 2027.

“The purpose of this meeting over the last three days has been to ensure complete unity in our party from top to bottom and to reaffirm our solidarity with the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated.

He claimed that the dedication and attendance of delegates from all around the state demonstrated their will to maintain the APC’s dominance in Kano and across the country.

The former governor revealed that 44 LGA party executives had asked for permission to start making public statements in support of President Tinubu’s second-term campaign.

Ganduje declared, “We have decided that all local governments in the state should gather their party officials, stakeholders, and supporters to make a public pronouncement endorsing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as our sole candidate for 2027.”

In order to improve grassroots mobilization, he ordered that all APC offices in LGAs and wards be promptly reopened and fully operational.

In advance of the APC’s anticipated start of its digital registration drive, Ganduje stated that the party would quickly send out ICT specialists.

The former governor reminded party members that Kano needed to recover the title for the highest APC membership figures in the nation.

“For the e-registration activity, each local government must supply three computer specialists who will receive training at the state headquarters. We guarantee that Kano will generate the greatest number of registered party members once more,” he declared.

Ganduje also called on party leaders to step up their efforts to encourage eligible individuals, particularly first-time voters, to register early for the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ongoing voter registration drive.

He emphasized that as the 2027 election preparations get traction, the APC in Kano must continue to be well-organized, fully mobilized, and strategically positioned.

PDP Governors Thwarted My Chairmanship Bid, Claim I’m Too Independent – Lamido

0

Sule Lamido, a former governor of Jigawa State, has accused governors chosen on the PDP platform of preventing him from running for the national leadership of the party.

In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Lamido claimed that despite a court ruling requiring the party to permit him to run, the governors refused to provide him access to nomination forms.

He claims that Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State and head of the PDP Governors’ Forum, personally requested him to resign.

“Bala, the governor of Bauchi, called and said, ‘My elder brother, you are stronger than us,'” he stated. We won’t be able to influence you if we choose you chairman.

Reminding the governor that the PDP was founded on group principles rather than individual control, Lamido said he turned down the offer.

“You weren’t there when PDP was formed,” I told him. “One person shouldn’t control the party with history,” he continued.

The former governor clarified that the governors disregarded a court order for the PDP to permit him to run. Rather, he claimed, the party filed an appeal to prevent him from taking part.

Lamido claimed that what happened went against the party’s constitution and democratic principles and accused the governors of taking over the process.

Additionally, he disregarded Tanimu Turaki’s election as national chairman at the party’s most recent national convention.

He insisted that the procedure was illegitimate, saying, “That convention is null and void.”

Senior stakeholders, such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, were urged by Lamido to step in and assist in reorganizing the party.

He maintained that in order for the PDP to properly fulfill its role in Nigeria’s democracy, it must revert to its original ideals.

The former governor cautioned that if internal democracy is further compromised, the party may see additional deterioration.

I’ve Worked Tirelessly for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release – Orji Kalu

North Abia A political resolution to the legal dispute between Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the Federal Government has been demanded by Senator Orji Uzor-Kalu.

In an interview with Sunday Politics, a show that Channels Television watched, Uzor-Kalu made the request.

His remarks are made in light of Kanu’s recent conviction for terrorism-related offenses by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The legislator claims that he has been discussing the IPOB leader’s situation with the federal government.

Peter Obi: “Insecurity: Why Nigeria is continuously bleeding”
“We must use a political mechanism to address the Nnamdi Kanu issue. No one should contest Justice Omotosho’s ruling, he continued. “I have been working with the Federal Government of Nigeria on how to solve this issue.”

He stated that he would speak with Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi to counsel the President on the issue at hand, while Kanu’s legal team will go to the Appeal Court to contest the Federal High Court decision.

The former governor of Abia state bemoaned the fact that IPOB’s activities in the South-East caused many people to lose their employment and means of subsistence, emphasizing that the group’s efforts have murdered hundreds of Igbo in the area.

Ten things you should know about Nigerian newspapers Monday morning
The senator clarified that he had put pressure on Muhammadu Buhari, the president at the time, to make Kanu’s release possible in April 2017.

He recognized the contributions made by Mamman Daura and Abubakar Malami, the Federation’s Attorney General at the time, in getting Kanu released from custody so he could stand trial.

“I am aware of the pressure I personally applied to President Buhari prior to his release in April 2017. “The Igbo who were killed are not being discussed,” he continued.

Suicide Attack Claims Lives of Three Security Officers in Pakistan

Three Pakistani paramilitary members were murdered in a suicide explosion at the border force headquarters in Peshawar city on Monday, according to authorities who spoke to AFP.

According to Peshawar police head Mian Saeed, “three FC (Federal Constabulary) personnel deployed at the gate were martyred and four others were wounded.” He further mentioned that two terrorists were shot dead by security forces and one attacker detonated explosives.

Just before rush hour, at 8:10 am (0310 GMT), the terrorists attacked the location on Saddar Road, one of the busiest thoroughfares in the city.

Outside the main gate, which had numerous shrapnel holes, an AFP reporter discovered body fragments of a suspected bomber.

“The attack has concluded, and a clearance operation is underway to determine whether any unexploded ordnance is present,” Zulfiqar Hameed, the police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, told AFP.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
Since the Taliban regained control of Kabul in 2021, the province, which borders Afghanistan, has been a hotbed of extremist activity.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, denounced the attack and praised the security forces’ “timely action” for preventing more deaths.

“As soon as possible, the perpetrators of this incident should be identified and brought to justice,” stated Sharif.

“We will stop terrorists’ evil plans to undermine Pakistan’s integrity.”

U.S. Condemns Niger, Kebbi School Abductions, Calls for Justice

Both the kidnapping of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and the kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Niger State have been denounced by the United States.

The State Department’s Bureau of African Affairs called the attacks “acts that must not go unpunished” and asked the Federal Government to prosecute the culprits in a statement released on Monday through its X account.

It also demanded that the government bolster security protocols and ensure the safety of vulnerable groups, such as Christian communities.
It wrote, “The United States condemns the mass abduction of reportedly over 300 students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, Nigeria, and the kidnapping, just days before, of 25 schoolgirls from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State.
“Those responsible for these crimes must be swiftly captured and held accountable. The Nigerian government must act decisively and do more to protect Christians and ensure Nigerians can live, learn, and practice their religion freely without fear or terror.”

It was reported that gunmen on November 17 stormed Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State, killing the vice principal, Hassan Makuku, and abducting at least 24 female students.

Four days later, on November 21, gunmen raided St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, abducting 303 students and 12 teachers.

Initial estimates varied, but the Christian Association of Nigeria later confirmed the figures through a census of missing individuals.

Fifty students managed to escape and reunite with their families.

The abductions mark a surge in school-targeted violence in Nigeria and echo the 2014 Chibok kidnapping of 276 girls by Boko Haram.

In response, the Federal Government initiated rescue operations in various states.

President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, directed the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State to coordinate security operations for the rescue of the abducted schoolgirls.

Governments in Niger, Katsina, Plateau, and Bauchi states have also ordered the closure of numerous schools to prevent further incidents.

Schools Under Siege, Leadership Missing’: Amaechi Slams Tinubu Over Rising Insecurity

0

After gunmen kidnapped students and teachers from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, in yet another attack on educational facilities, former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi accused President Bola Tinubu of neglecting to protect Nigerian schools.

Mr. Amaechi cited the recent kidnapping of schoolgirls in Maga, Kebbi State, while describing the act as part of a growing pattern of mass kidnappings. Recurrent attacks on schools, farms, roads, and places of worship, he said, demonstrate that insecurity has become “systemic, national, and urgent.”

Following President Donald Trump’s placement of Nigeria on a list of Countries of Particular Concern and his threat of military action for claimed Christian genocide, a team from Nigeria led by National Security Advisor Nuhu Ribadu met with US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth last week.

Mr. Amaechi criticized the government in a Facebook statement for what he described as a concerning mismatch between domestic insecurity and foreign policy ambitions.

“International cooperation is important, but making statements after the fact is insufficient when children are being kidnapped from schools.”

He pointed out that at the time of the assaults in Niger and Kebbi, important security officials, such as the Minister of Defence, NSA, Inspector-General of Police, and Chief of Defence Staff, were abroad.

“Visible, coordinated, decisive, and proactive action is what Nigerians want to see,” he continued. “It must be his turn to protect if it was his turn to lead.”

Mr. Amaechi cited Tinubu’s 2022 proclamation, “Emi lo kan” (“It is my turn”), and charged the president with neglecting the duties that come with authority.

“Nigerian children should be protected if it is anyone’s turn. It is impossible to divorce the obligation to protect from the right to lead.

Mr. Amaechi, a 2027 presidential candidate and current member of the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), claimed that such mass kidnappings jeopardize the public’s remaining faith in the federal administration.

Nigeria is the country with the most out-of-school children worldwide.
According to UNICEF, Nigeria has the biggest number of out-of-school children globally, with over 18 million. Of these, 8.1 million are in junior secondary school and 10.2 million are in primary school.

According to Mr. Amaechi, frequent attacks on schools run the risk of making the situation worse forever.

“Schooling becomes a risk rather than a right when kids are removed from classrooms. These tragedies harm not just education today but also the workforce, economy, and peace of tomorrow.

The Safe Schools Declaration, which Nigeria adopted in 2018 to shield schools from armed assaults, was criticized by Mr. Amaechi. He pointed out that under the current administration, the N16 billion allotted in 2022 has not produced any discernible results.

“We cannot abandon a vital national structure intended to protect schools and still claim to be serious about doing so.”

In a similar vein, experts have cited uneven budget releases, inadequate interagency cooperation, and poor implementation.

“Security is economic stability, not just firearms.”
Mr. Amaechi connected widespread poverty and a lack of prospects for employment to insecurity in addition to operational shortcomings.

“People will create illegal sources of income if they are unable to earn a lawful one. Opportunity, dignity, and faith in the government are all important aspects of security.

He called the National Council of State an essential constitutional mechanism in times of national crisis and encouraged President Tinubu to bring it into session.

“When will we use such an instrument if we don’t now?”

Growing fear and criticism
Ten years of widespread school kidnappings, which started with the Chibok event in 2014, have been completed with the most recent abduction. Some victims are still unaccounted for, while others have been saved or freed.

President Tinubu is under increasing public pressure as similarities between his administration and those of his predecessors, Muhammadu Buhari and Goodluck Jonathan, both of whom experienced harsh public criticism due to insecurity.

Political adversaries, such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have also called for the president to step down.

Ita Awak, a former APC spokeswoman and aviation regulator, had earlier publicly apologized to former President Jonathan for branding him “clueless,” claiming that insecurity under Tinubu is now “worse.”

Looking back: Buhari’s insecurity
When former President Muhammadu Buhari took office in 2015, he pledged to combat corruption and reestablish security. Many Nigerians anticipated that his military experience would improve the country’s defense.

Rather, insecurity increased. ICIR’s analysis of data from the Nigeria Security Tracker shows that between May 2015 and April 2023, non-state actors killed about 31,821 individuals. Over 5,200 Nigerians were kidnapped in 2021 alone, surpassing the total number of kidnappings from 2014 to 2019.

Banditry, insurrection, kidnappings for ransom, and fatal conflicts between farmers and herders were all part of the wave of widespread violence. The murder of over 100 rice farmers in Koshebe, Borno State, in November 2020 is a striking example, according to HumAngle.

Travel became dangerous, schools and farms closed, and public confidence in the ability of the government declined.

After the Abuja–Kaduna train incident, Amaechi said, “We would have saved lives.”
Since his tenure in Buhari’s government, Mr. Amaechi has been frustrated by structural shortcomings. He was upset that a planned surveillance system was delayed following the March 28, 2022, Abuja-Kaduna train incident.

“The procedure of obtaining the comprehensive security surveillance and monitoring system has been tiresome; I am upset and honestly don’t know what to tell Nigerians anymore. We may have saved lives if the procedures had been streamlined, according to PREMIUM TIMES.

“We were aware of the issue… You would see someone on that track if we had such equipment. Our losses have cost us more than N3 billion. All we asked for was permission.

“If these items were here,” he continued. Drones would have alerted you to the presence of persons in this area. In addition to drones, we also require helicopters.

The presidency reacts
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga stated that Mr. Amaechi’s recommendations were helpful and would be taken into consideration when contacted.

“I am confident that the Federal Government will give them immediate consideration.”

He refuted Mr. Amaechi’s assertion that important security figures were not present during the most recent kidnappings, though.

“The DG of DSS is present and has been briefing the Commander-in-Chief. There, the Chief of Army Staff is mobilizing soldiers. Following Trump’s military threats, those who were not in the nation went on yet another important mission in the United States.

“To get our kidnapped children released, the NSA has been in contact with security officials on the ground,” Mr. Onanuga stated.

Insecurity Worsens: Dele Momodu Urges Tinubu to Take Action Before It’s Too Late

0

Dele Momodu, a media mogul, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to address Nigeria’s current insecurity crisis before it’s too late.

This was what Momodu said in a lengthy tweet on Sunday.

Before the general elections in 2027, he said, Tinubu is more concerned with crushing the opposition.

Momodu claims that the president has surrounded himself with political vagrants and friends who act carelessly and foolishly.

“If you ask me if Tinubu is serious about fighting insecurity in Nigeria, my honest response would be that he’s wasting all of his energy on fighting opposition in order to have no competition in 2027,” Momodu wrote.

“President Tinubu has surrounded himself with political vagrants and friends, enabling them to act carelessly and dangerously.

“Truth and reality indicate that our leaders are too indolent and completely unserious about true governance, even though Nigerians are busy shouting sovereignty as patriotic citizens.”

“I spoke with our soldiers in Sierra Leone and Liberia more than 20 years ago, and I can vouch for the fact that we presented and continue to parade some of the most valiant armies in Africa and the world today.”

Unfortunately, Nigerian politicians have turned them into ragtags.

ISWAP Kidnaps Dozen Teenage Girls in Borno’s Farming Communities

0

While working on their property in Borno State’s Askira-Uba Local Government Area, a number of young females were kidnapped by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The attack was verified on Sunday by Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, who said that the terrorists had abducted thirteen youngsters from Mussa district, a nearby farming town.

The victims, who were between the ages of 15 and 20, went to their Mussa property to gather crops when ISWAP fighters assaulted the fields, according to Askira, who represents the Askira-Uba seat.

He claimed that the girls were among the locals who had earlier been moved by the government from Huyim to Mussa because of security concerns.

He said, “The victims are among those relocated to a relatively peaceful community of Mussa to earn means of their livelihoods through joint community farming.”

According to the deputy speaker, one of the kidnapped girls escaped and was reunited with her family early on Sunday.

Twelve others, however, are still in ISWAP custody and their whereabouts are still a mystery.

Askira bemoaned the circumstances and called on the government to take immediate action to prevent more tragedy.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, responded to the event by denouncing the kidnapping and urging security forces to step up rescue operations.

Ndume urged locals to continue praying for the teenagers’ safe return, stay alert, and promptly notify authorities.

“Terror Alert: Ondo Police Carry Out Security Assessment of Border Community Facilities”

0

In response to growing worries about insecurity in the nation, the Ondo State Police Command has started a strategic evaluation of its formations at border villages in the state.
It claimed that its response complied with Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun’s order, which required police commissioners across the country to guarantee the security of schools, vital assets, all government property, and police facilities.
Adobowale Lawal, the commissioner of the Ondo State Police, took his team on a “comprehensive assessment tour” of the state’s key facilities on Saturday.

The commissioner examined the current security measures throughout the exercise and emphasized the necessity of ongoing development to ensure everyone’s safety and well-being.
He mentioned that the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was helping the authorities take steps to improve the welfare of the employees working at the facilities in order to increase their efficacy.
The facilities and formations of the Force in and around the Akoko region of Ondo State are the police facilities that were visited.
Mr. Lawal engaged with police and management staff throughout the trips, evaluated the security architecture in place, and praised the staff for their commitment and expertise.
In order to improve operational effectiveness and guarantee the ongoing protection of people and property, he also promised to upgrade the current security systems.
All tactical units, Area Commands, and Divisional Police Headquarters covering the aforementioned locations have been instructed to do routine supervision inspections and submit thorough situational reports to the Command, according to Police PPRO Olayinka Ayanlade.
“This proactive measure is intended to ensure the early detection of emerging security concerns, strengthen coordination, and sustain vigilance,” he stated.
Additionally, the commissioner visited the Eti Ose hamlet near the Ondo-Edo border to examine continuing security measures.
In addition, he praised the policemen and troops on duty for their perseverance and assured them of his steadfast support for their efforts to protect the state.
Following the recent attack by bandits on the Christ Apostolic Church in Oke-Igan, Eruku, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, tensions have been high in Ondo State and its surrounding areas.
About 35 people are said to have been kidnapped by the bandits, who are now seeking N100 million in ransom for each victim.
The pace of instability, which has already been exacerbated by kidnappings in the region, has also increased due to rumors of bandit infiltration in southern Nigeria.
