$20,000 Returned: Obasanjo Settles Birthday Fund Dispute with Fayose

0

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has confirmed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo has returned the $20,000 he provided for Obasanjo’s travel logistics ahead of Fayose’s 65th birthday celebration. The refund follows a fresh clash between the two political figures, who have had a long-standing estrangement spanning nearly two decades.

In an interview with AF24 News monitored by Legit.ng, Fayose explained that he reached out to Obasanjo through a mutual friend, former Aviation Minister Osita Chidoka, to invite him to the birthday event. Although Obasanjo attended, he made remarks that Fayose described as critical and unwelcoming. Fayose insisted that his initial call was not an apology, stating, “I never called to go and apologise to Baba. I did not offend him. He was the one that removed me from office. If anybody should apologise, it is him.”

The former governor said he provided $20,000 to cover Obasanjo’s logistics at the former president’s request, adding, “How can you accept somebody’s money and come and be spiting that person?” Following a text message from Fayose, Obasanjo returned the money, which Fayose converted to naira and confirmed is now in his possession.

Fayose also raised a separate issue regarding N10 million he and other PDP governors had donated to the Obasanjo Presidential Library in 2005, stating that he now seeks the return of his personal contribution. He stressed that public figures should not disparage those who provide support, warning against misappropriation.

The controversy has reignited political tensions between the two, with Fayose publicly criticizing Obasanjo’s remarks at his birthday while affirming that he was pleased to recover the funds.

Nnamdi Kanu: Dickson Pushes for Political Resolution, National Unity Efforts

0

Former Governor of Bayelsa State and Chairman of the South-South Senate Caucus, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to initiate a comprehensive political process aimed at resolving the separatist agitation led by detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. In an official statement titled “Nnamdi Kanu: The Imperative of a Political Solution,” Senator Dickson emphasized the need for dialogue to end violence, restore normalcy, and address long-standing grievances in the South East and across Nigeria.

Dickson aligned himself with other leaders advocating for a resolution that could lead to Kanu’s release under conditions promoting peace and reintegration. He stressed that such a move should be framed as a national effort rather than a regional demand, noting that Nigerians who value unity, peace, and justice support this approach.

Condemning the violence in the South East and the terrorist attacks in the North, Dickson expressed sympathy for all victims. Drawing from his experience as a former police officer and Attorney-General, he highlighted the distress caused by the killing of security operatives and insisted that lawlessness must be rejected everywhere.

According to the senator, while arrests and prosecutions have historically been the state’s response to separatist movements, punitive measures alone have never brought lasting peace. He argued that sustainable solutions are achieved through political processes guided by leaders who prioritise national interest over sectional or personal considerations.

Dickson cited global and local precedents, including Nelson Mandela in South Africa and Isaac Adaka Boro in Nigeria, noting that political engagement ultimately yielded peace. He also referenced the Niger Delta Presidential Amnesty Programme under Presidents Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan, and highlighted General Yakubu Gowon’s decision to pardon Boro and integrate him into federal forces during the civil war as examples of broad-minded statesmanship.

The senator urged President Tinubu, in his capacity as a statesman, to lead a peace initiative addressing the root causes of separatist agitations, ensuring Kanu’s renunciation of violence while correcting historical injustices and structural imbalances. He also called for humane treatment and secure custody for Kanu, warning that new conflict zones could strain already overstretched security forces.

Dickson pledged support for national mobilisation against terrorism, extremist attacks, and banditry, while appealing to the South East, particularly the youth, to remain calm and participate in political processes fostering a fair and inclusive Nigeria. As chairman of the South-South Senate Caucus, he disclosed ongoing consultations with colleagues from the South East and other regions to promote national stability.

The statement concluded: “As everyone knows, I am available for any engagement that can lead to a restructured Nigeria that will work for all.”

Sheikh Gumi gives condition to champion Nnamdi Kanu’s release from prison

0

Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has given a condition to lead the negotiation for the release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Gumi also defended his call for a non-kinetic approach towards tackling the growing insecurity mostly caused by terrorists and bandits operating in the Northern parts of the country.

Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, the cleric said he will only lead the call for Kanu’s release if the IPOB leader shows remorse.

Recall that last week, Kanu was convicted on a seven-count charge by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.

The judge while delivering the judgement slammed a life sentence and a 20-year jail term, which would run concurrently, on the IPOB leader over the terrorism charges levelled against him by the Nigerian Government.

He has since been moved from the facility of the Department of Security Services in Abuja to the Nigerian Correctional Centre in Sokoto state to serve his sentence.

However, reacting to the court’s judgement and the activities of the IPOB leader before his arrest and trial, Gumi accused Kanu of championing the killing of Nigerian soldiers.

“This Kanu that was imprisoned for terrorism for agitating that our soldiers should be killed, if this same Kanu now will show remorse and also call for peace, honestly, I will be in the forefront in calling for his pardon and amnesty for him.

Citing some of the Northern leaders who pardoned past agitators from the Southeast and the Niger Delta region, Gumi said that majority of the leaders from the North believe in Nigeria.

“Look, Shagari, our president, we are from the same town. Shagari gave amnesty to Ojukwu. Look at Umar Yar’Adua; he gave amnesty to the Niger Delta militants, who have also committed acts of terrorism. So, this is how we are.

“We have people who are ready to put down their arms, then why do you always decide it has to be kinetic?”

“Even America could not succeed in Afghanistan, even Israel could not succeed in a small strip of land. Our army is not designed for the gorilla; no army is designed for the kind of people we are showing now, no army is designed for it,” Gumi stated.

Further speaking on behalf of the Fulani herdsmen who have been consistently accused of perpetrating some of the deadly atrocities across the country, the cleric said the herdsmen have been calling for peace.

“If you have been following, the Fulani herdsmen have been calling for peace. When you call them for peace, they come with their guns for many reasons.

“Can you call IPOB for peace? Can you call Boko Haram? I think the former president has called for peace, and they came, but now it’s difficult to call for peace again. So, anybody who inclines to peace. I’m with him, I’m telling you.” he said.

Presidential Aide Explains Why Security Agencies Cannot Bomb Bandit Enclaves

0

Security agencies are fully aware of the identities and locations of the bandit groups responsible for recent mass kidnappings, including the attack on St. Mary’s Catholic School, Papiri, in Niger State, according to Bayo Onanuga, Special Advisor to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy.

Onanuga revealed the information on Monday in an interview with Prime Time on ARISE News.

According to him, although security officers have the requisite intelligence, their operations are often hampered by the potential of collateral damage to citizens being held by the bandits.

“Every bandit working on that axis is known to the security personnel. They are familiar with them. “They are aware of where they work,” he remarked.

Onanuga emphasized that the government cannot just attack the designated enclaves with airstrikes.

“Where they operate, our people reside. Therefore, you can’t simply get there. They must exercise extreme caution to avoid bombing innocent Nigerians while pursuing these bandits, he stated.

The presidential assistant brought up a previous instance in Borno State where civilians were erroneously hit by the military.

“The military bombed the wrong people in Borno State a few years ago because they believed they had the correct satellite link. They have to steer clear of that kind of error,” he stated.

He continued by saying that because neither the school nor the Christian Association of Nigeria’s Niger State branch had produced comprehensive records, there is still uncertainty on the precise number of kidnapped pupils.

The number of those that are truly missing is currently unknown to the authorities. You mentioned that pupils are absent; please provide their names. Tell us what you’re looking for,” he said.

Additionally, Onanuga asserted that the principal of the school had “disappeared,” making the verification procedure more difficult.

“The security felt that their lack of cooperation was quite odd. “What is the agenda?” he inquired.

He went on to explain why, following kidnappings, security agents do not instantly raid bandit camps.

Sometimes the possibility of collateral damage keeps them from pursuing them. He claimed, “They kidnap our people and use them as a shield so they won’t be attacked.”

The bandits are aware of the repercussions of resisting government pressure, Onanuga continued.

He stated, “They understand that the government will launch a kinetic action and attack their base if they hold those people and refuse to release them.”

Onanuga stated that the President’s order to reassign personnel from VIP protection to front-line responsibilities will greatly enhance security in high-risk regions.

“I read today that VIPs are protected by 100,000 police officers. It will make a big impact if you distribute them to areas that are susceptible, he said.

Onanuga stressed that the administration acknowledges the gravity of the current security situation in response to criticism from church leaders.

The fact that Nigerians are being slain has never been denied by this government. We are working to make sure that we stop all of these issues, even though we are aware of our shortcomings,” he stated.

The presidential aide revealed that after continuing security consultations, the president is anticipated to address the country shortly.
He stated, “I believe he will do so very soon.”

APC Group Says Defections in Taraba Reach Unprecedented Levels

0

The current wave of political defections in the state is “unprecedented,” according to Dr. Jinadu Garvey Yaweh, State Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Youth Vanguard branch in Taraba State.

In response to inquiries from reporters on Monday in the state capital of Jalingo, Yaweh stated that the gradual shift of politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC had been more intense in recent weeks.

He claims that each of the 24 members of the State House of Assembly,
He characterized this as a major restructuring of the state’s political systems, noting that the Speaker has now joined the APC.
He added that the PDP’s political apparatus in the state was “almost empty” due to the defection of a number of high-ranking government officials, including commissioners, SSG Secretary to the State Government Gebon Timothy Kataps, and PDP State Chairman Abubakar Bawa.

He praised Governor Agbu Kefas as “an embodiment of justice, fairness, and political maturity” and linked the trend to his uniting leadership style.

He asserted that even though Governor Kefas had not formally declared his support for the APC, he had already done so “unofficially,” with the ceremonial ceremony still to come.

He claims that the governor’s official transfer to the APC was postponed because of recent national security concerns, especially the incident in Kebbi State, which led to an examination of his political activities.

The APC youth leader contended that Taraba would benefit more from a national alliance with the ruling party since it would facilitate the attraction of development initiatives.

Additionally, he disregarded worries that Nigeria was moving toward a one-party system, arguing that the present wave of defections demonstrated strong leadership and political clarity, which he said would promote unity and quicken Taraba’s growth.

Nwifuru Unveils Plans to Build Cement Factory

0

The establishment of a state-owned cement factory in Ebonyi has been announced by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

According to the governor, the plan was a component of the state’s industrialization initiatives.

This was revealed on Monday when Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru formally presented the 2026 budget proposal to the public for their feedback.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was commended by the governor for his audacious economic initiatives.

He said that the President’s audacious measures caused the economy to develop astronomically in a number of industries.

“What was once unattainable is now feasible. Our budget would not have increased from N89 billion to over N800 billion without the provision of subsidies. The governor stated, “That is the proof and advantage of eliminating fuel subsidies.

The 2026 budget was dubbed the “Budget of Hope and Actualization,” according to Governor Nwifuru.

He clarified that the 2026 budget was created to guarantee the completion of ongoing projects and the growth of human capital.

In order to continue carrying out their responsibilities, he urged Nigerians, particularly the opposition parties, to cooperate with the Presidential Renewed Hope Agenda and his People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.

He insisted that all projects are time-bound and promised that contractors will use the dry season to finish all ongoing projects, all the while refuting concerns and rumors of sluggish project execution.

The Nigerian President will visit Ebonyi to commission at least ten projects, according to the Governor, who plans to start project commissioning by May of next year.

The governor was praised for include worthy sectors in the 2026 budgets by leaders of the traditional rulers council, women’s societies, elders council, and student organizations in their respective addresses earlier.

Wike-Supported Faction Takes INEC to Court, Demands Ibadan Convention Be Nullified

0

In an attempt to prevent the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the party’s recent national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, a faction loyal to Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike filed a lawsuit before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, escalating the crisis plaguing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP, Acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu filed lawsuit FHC/ABJ/CS/2501/2025, requesting that the court declare the November 15–16 Ibadan convention and all decisions made there “null, void, and of no effect.”

The plaintiffs, who are all Wike supporters, maintain that the convention was held in flagrant violation of three Federal High Court rulings.

They contended that the court had already declared the 21-day notice for the convention to be invalid and specifically prohibited the party from carrying out any such exercise.

The plaintiffs listed the following in the original summons:

the ruling in FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025 (Austine Nwachukwu v. INEC & Ors) on October 31;

the November 11 interim order and the November 14 ruling in FHC/ABJ/CS/2299/2025 (Sule Lamido v. PDP & Ors);

Nyesom Wike v. PDP & Ors, FHC/ABJ/CS/139/2023, was decided on May 31, 2023.

The plaintiffs claimed that the 5th through 25th defendants, including Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum, and other notable members, organized themselves and their allies and called the Ibadan convention, where important party members were expelled and national officers were chosen, in spite of these decisions.

Anyanwu said in an affidavit that on November 18, the Damagum-led group made an attempt to “forcibly take control” of the PDP national secretariat located at Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in Abuja.

He claims that the Department of State Services and the police “sealed up the premises” and prevented lawful authorities from entering their offices rather than carrying out the court orders.

According to the affidavit, “the second to fourth defendants have now sealed up the first plaintiff’s premises and denied the second and third plaintiffs access to their offices.”

The plaintiffs requested that the court rule that INEC, the Inspector-General of Police, the FCT Commissioner of Police, and the DSS are required by the constitution to uphold the previous rulings.

They also look for:

an order prohibiting the recognition of the Ibadan convention and any decisions made there by INEC and security forces;

an order prohibiting the defendants numbered six through twenty-five from posing as PDP officials;

an order requiring the security services to safeguard the plaintiffs and give them entry to Legacy House and Wadata Plaza;

an injunction prohibiting INEC from recognizing changes to the PDP’s official address outside of its two Abuja headquarters.

In light of the current rulings, the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the PDP Constitution, the plaintiffs further requested that the court decide whether any authority may legitimately recognize the Ibadan convention.

A judge has not yet been assigned to the case, and the hearing date has not been set.

Insecurity: APC Focused on Crushing Opposition Instead of Solving Problems – Buba Galadima

0

Buba Galadima, a leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has charged that the government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) is worried about attempting to dismantle opposition political groups.

According to reports, Galadima stated that the government is unconcerned about Nigeria’s growing insecurity during an interview on Arise Television’s “Prime Time” program on Monday.

The NNPP Board of Trustees member claims that the APC government is too busy accepting defectors to address the problems caused by insecurity.

Galadima emphasized that officials at the federal, state, and local levels of government must take action to safeguard people’s lives and property since governance is a serious business.

“The Federal Government has dedicated 99% of its time to politicking,” he declared.

“Government is a serious business, particularly in a nation like Nigeria. How much sacrifice the leaders would make on behalf of the people is more important than how to gain money.

“You shouldn’t have more than six hours for leisure if you are a Nigerian president, governor, or even head of a local government; the rest of the time must be spent working. that we are unable to see.

Receiving defectors and attempting to dismantle opposing political groups are the sole concerns of this government. And I want the world to know that eliminating opposition is not in their best interests because democracy cannot exist without disagreement.

Additionally, the absence of democracy indicates that fascism and dictatorship are on the horizon. To save lives and property, they must put on their thinking caps and take the appropriate action.

JUST IN: Tinubu Government Declares Open Grazing Unsustainable

0

The government of President Bola Tinubu has declared that 417 grazing reserves will be rehabilitated nationally, citing open grazing as a primary contributing factor to the frequent conflicts between farmers and herders in Nigeria.

The strategy is a crucial part of a new agenda for livestock transformation that aims to modernize the industry and lower insecurity.

At the National Council on Livestock Development’s (NCLD) first meeting, which took place on Monday, November 24 at the Government House Banquet Hall in Yola, Adamawa State, Minister of Livestock Development Idi Mukhtar Maiha reportedly said this.

He saw the event as a turning point in efforts to create a system that is peaceful, productive, and sustainable as well as a historic shift in Nigeria’s livestock future.

“Open Grazing’s Era Is Over”
The foundation of the government’s new strategy, according to Maiha, is moving Nigeria away from open grazing, which he called antiquated and prone to conflict.

The only long-term answer to the farmer-herder conflict, in his opinion, is the restoration of grazing areas into fully furnished Renewed Hope Livestock Villages.

“The open grazing age is unsustainable and a major cause of ongoing conflict. The only solution to the farmer-herder dispute is to transform the 417 grazing reserves into contemporary Renewed Hope Livestock Villages, he stated.

With better pastures, veterinary care, water infrastructure, schools, clinics, dairy and beef processing facilities, and renewable energy produced by biogas systems, he clarified, each restored reserve will function as an economic center.

He stated that since modern ranching ensures security, stability, and increased output, state governments would have to set aside territory for pastoralists who are willing to adopt it.

Under the direction of the National Livestock Growth Acceleration Strategy (NL-GAS), the one-year-old Ministry of Livestock Development has made notable success, according to the minister.

He clarified that by enhancing genetics, boosting productivity, and bolstering value-chain investments, the strategy aims to grow the livestock business from its present $32 billion to $74 billion within five years.

For the first time in almost 50 years, the nation just registered eight new grassland species, according to Maiha. Additionally, he announced the creation of a national genetic resources strategy and a significant increase in the National Veterinary Research Institute’s (Vom) yearly output of vaccines, from 120 million to 850 million doses.

He added that collaborations with international dairy giants like Nestlé, Arla Foods, Danone, Promasidor, and FrieslandCampina WAMCO have been crucial in helping the nation double its yearly milk production from 700,000 to 1.4 million metric tons, and that the creation of the Wase Livestock Village has become a model for restoring national grazing reserves. According to him, the L-PRES project’s solar-powered boreholes, cattle dips, veterinary clinics, slaughter slabs, and milk collection facilities are already helping a number of states.

Maiha argues that in order to avoid impeding progress, all states must adopt a single national strategy for cattle reforms. The livestock industry faces problems that cut across state lines. “We need to apply NL-GAS consistently,” he stated.

The National Assembly Supports Reforms
In his message of goodwill, Tasir Olawale Raji, the chairman of the House Committee on Livestock Development, stated that the legislature completely supports the reform objective of the federal government.

He cautioned that Nigeria’s livestock production is still much below what is needed domestically, making the nation heavily dependent on imports.

Nigeria presently imports 65% of the milk eaten domestically, according to Raji, who also noted that the nation’s annual per capita consumption of 8.7 liters of milk, 9 kg of beef, and 45 eggs is much lower than the world average.

In order to modernize production systems, improve value addition, and draw in more private sector investment, he continued, the National Assembly is developing new legal frameworks.

Raji expressed confidence that the NCLD will play a crucial role in expediting the Renewed Hope Agenda and invited stakeholders to provide workable suggestions that would unlock the sector’s full economic potential.

Dr. Chinyere Ijeoma Akujobi, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, called the first council meeting a turning point in Nigeria’s livestock transformation process. According to her, the recently established NCLD will serve as the top national policy and coordinating authority for directing livestock development nationwide.

She claims that the livestock industry continues to be a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In order to create a contemporary and competitive cattle industry, she said the council will fortify alliances, harmonize regulations, and spur innovation.

Akujobi also praised development partners, especially Propcom, for their contributions, stating that they will enable the production of wealth, enhance livelihoods, and create a robust cattle sector.
