The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded the disqualification of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, from the September 21 governorship election in Edo State over alleged possession of a fake voter card.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, made the call in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
He said investigations into the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal revealed discrepancies in Okpebholo’s voting status.
Ologunagba said: “The alarming discovery that the APC candidate allegedly presented a fake voter card in his Form EC9 submitted to INEC is a self-inflicted blow, which clearly and irredeemably signals the end of the road for the APC and its candidate in the 2024 Edo State governorship election.”
He criticized the APC for nominating a candidate with dubious documentation and described the act as an affront to democratic norms and the people of Edo State.

The PDP spokesman listed the constitutional provisions and electoral laws that disqualify individuals with fraudulent documentation from contesting public office.
“The clear implication is that the APC campaign in Edo State is a journey to nowhere, as any vote cast for the APC in the September 21, 2024, Edo State Governorship election would be a void vote and effort in futility,” he added.
Ologunagba urged INEC not to yield to pressures to manipulate voter registration data in favor of the APC candidate.
He also advised Okpebholo and the APC to withdraw from the race immediately.

Fubara, others attend Niger Delta summit
Key stakeholders such as ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and some former governors were present at the ongoing Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State Capital.
According Online reports that while some key political stakeholders of Niger Delta extraction including Jonathan and President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, as well as some stakeholders from other geo-political zones, such as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State were present at the summit, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State is the only South-South governor physically present as at the time of filing in this report.
Other governors of the South-South states sent in their deputies to the summit themed “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta Region”.
Former Governors Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State; Donald Duke, Cross River; and Seriake Dickson, Bayelsa were present at the time of filing this report.
The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who is the host is also represented by the Head of Service of the State, George Nwaeke.
While the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the time of filing this report was not at the Summit, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, was present at the instance of representing President Bola Tinubu.

Seun Kuti reveals highest challenge he endures as a married man
Seun Kuti, scion of late Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti has revealed that the most challenging thing he has to endure as a married man is keeping up with his wife’s allowance.
The musician revealed this information in a recent interview with Pulse Fun Facts, stating that the hardest thing about his marriage to deal with is his wife’s allowance.
During the interview which featured himself and his wife, they asked each other a series of questions about his marriage to Yetunde and their relationship. Yetunde asked, “What is the most challenging thing you have endured in our relationship?”
Seun answered right away, pointing out how expensive her stipend is each month and how difficult it is for him to save up the money.

“Her allowance is very high—seven figures every month,” he said in between laughter. “I’m not joking; her allowance is very high and she has a high taste. That’s challenging because I have to work for the money and it’s not easy. It’s very, very high. I don’t know how we negotiated it; I must have been under duress during negotiations.”
Yetunde then asked, “Have you had any regrets since we got married?” and in response, Seun stressed that he does not believe in the idea of regrets and therefore has none.
He asserted, “I don’t have regrets; I don’t regret anything in my life so I cannot regret anything in our marriage. I don’t have regrets; regret is for the weak.”

Anambra police arrest 200 suspects in two months
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 200 suspects and recovered over 33 different brands of arms which include AK-47, pump action guns, locally made pistols, and others.
The Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, stated this during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Awka, on Friday, adding that over 1,644 ammunition of various types,
27 stolen vehicles were recovered.
Itam said these arrests and recoveries were made within 60 days through the ongoing significant innovation in the command aimed at operational proficiency and acquiring more skills in crime prevention strategies.
He said, “Today is exactly the 60th day I resumed this national assignment to serve Ndi Anambra and our dear nation. I am very delighted to address you today and to provide members of the public updates on the Command’s law and order activities and achievements in our fight against crime and criminalities in the state.
“On assumption of office with my strategic officers, we reviewed and evaluated policing capabilities and threats within the state’s critical assets and embarked upon painstaking intelligence gathering through robust synergy with core sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups, and other stakeholders.
“Efforts at reducing crime and criminality are yielding positive results and we are changing the narrative. During the 60 days of my arrival, over 200 suspects have been arrested for various crimes and we have secured five convictions and still ongoing trials.
“We have rescued unhurt four kidnapped victims and recovered over 33 different brands of arms which include AK47, pump action guns, locally made pistols, and others. Over 1,644 ammunition of various types, 27 stolen, but recovered vehicles. Different brands of motorcycles, and monies amongst other exhibits in ongoing investigations.
“Another significant innovation in the Command is the ongoing training and retraining of officers and men to improve operational proficiency and acquire more skills in crime prevention strategies, we have conducted a security summit with the informal security sector that had in attendance, vigilante groups, hunters, and other relevant security outfits in the State, to enhance an all-inclusive policing system.”
The CP commended the security-consciousness of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, adding that the governor, despite obvious challenges worked towards repositioning and priming law enforcement as a design to restructure security governance architecture in the state.
He added that the command is consulting and engaging relevant stakeholders, like traditional rulers, market leaders, youth groups, and civil society organisations in the state, in its drive to fight all forms of criminalities.
According to him, the window of Alternative Dispute Resolution and community policing principles is open for those desirous of taking advantage of such avenues to resolve specific problems and issues.
“These developments shall further re-echo the campaign and stand against touting and cultism, especially the police on the advocacy program; Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices, a programme targeted to sensitise the youths on the dangers of bad groups, drugs, and other vices.
“Recently, there have been three trending videos on social media intended to paint the police in Anambra’s bad light. These videos include a demonstration at the Government House about cult-related deaths in the Awka metropolis.
“Another is, about an incident in Umueri in Otucha and a picture of dismissed policemen purportedly kidnappers in uniforms. I advise journalists to clear with the Public Relations Department of the Command before uploading and commenting on content on social media about the Police.
“For those who have been misled to take to crime, you are warned to retrace your steps as the command is poised to deal squarely with any acts of criminality without regard for status. As far we are concerned there are no unknown gunmen in Anambra State. People who are terrorizing innocent citizens must be made to account for their crimes,” the CP added.
Apple warns iPhone users of possible spyware attacks in 98 countries
American multinational corporation and technology company, Apple has warned iPhone users of possible spyware attacks which will hit no fewer than 98 countries.
The identity of the attackers and the nations where users received notifications were not disclosed in the official notice issued by the tech company on Wednesday.
“Apple detected that you are being targeted by a mercenary spyware attack that is trying to remotely compromise the iPhone associated with your Apple ID -xxx-,” the company wrote in the warning to affected customers.

“This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do. Although it’s never possible to achieve absolute certainty when detecting such attacks, Apple has high confidence in this warning — please take it seriously,” Apple added in the text.
This is the company’s second alert campaign of this kind this year; in April, a similar notification was sent to users across 92 countries.
A support page on the company’s website states that Apple has been delivering these messages on a regular basis since 2021, reaching users in more than 150 countries.

Governor Namadi appoints eight new permanent secretaries
Governor Malam Umar Namadi has approved the appointment of eight new Permanent Secretaries to fill vacancies in the State Civil Service.
This is contained in a statement signed by the State Head of Civil Service, Muhammad Dagaceri issued to TVN.
He said those appointed are substantive Directors elevated to the position of the Permanent Secretaries.
They include;
1. Abdullahi Sa’idu
2. Yusha’u Muhammad Jaji
3. Lawan Muhammad Haruna
4. Engineer Labaran Adamu
5. Dahiru Lawan
6. Sagir Muhammad Sani
7. QS Ahmed Isah
8. Muhammad Yahaya Jabo
The statement explained that the appointment of the new Permanent Secretaries is purely on merit, competence, personal integrity and seniority.
All the appointments are with immediate effect.

Court grants ex-power minister, Sale Mamman, bail
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to the former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday arraigned the former minister for alleged N33 billion fraud.
He was arraigned on a 12-count charge of fraud and money laundering.
The EFCC alleged that Mamman conspired with staff of the ministry in charge of the accounts of the Zungeru and Mambilla Hydro Electric Power projects to divert N22 billion.
At Friday’s proceeding, the defendant was granted bail in the sum of N10 billion with two sureties in like sum.

The judge ordered that the sureties must be owners of landed properties valued at N750 million each within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
They are also expected to provide three-year tax clearance certificates, an affidavit of means, certified bank statements, and recent passport photographs.
Alternatively, the sureties could submit a bank guarantee or bond of N10 billion.
The judge ordered Mamman to surrender his international passport to the court’s Registrar for verification before his release from custody.
He adjourned the matter till September 25 for further hearing.

Travellers suffering on East-West road, Diri tells Tinubu
Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has lamented the collapse of the East-West road, calling on President Bola Tinubu to hand over the reconstruction of the road to the Niger Delta Development Commission if the contractors engaged by the Federal government would fail in delivery.
Diri, who acknowledged the President’s approval of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, said that though the approval was commendable, the reconstruction of the East-West Road was a priority.
“Our region is in dire need of development. Everything has been said by everybody here, and for me, there is just one thing that I would say.
“Prior to today, the journey between Yenagoa and Port Harcourt is either one and a half hours or one hour. For those of us who even come with the convoy, one hour you are in Port Harcourt, but today, I travelled four hours between Yenagoa and Port Harcourt. Our people are suffering. That road has collapsed.
“So, while we appreciate Mr. President for the coastal road, there is a need to immediately go into the East-West road. If that contractor does not have the capacity, please Mr. President, hand over that road to the Niger Delta Development Commission,” Diri said in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Friday at the 2024 Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit themed “Renewed Hope for Sustainable Development in the Niger Delta Region”.
Diri, who said he was devastated by the experience of travellers along the road, said he chose to shelve aside his planned trip by air from Yenagoa to Port Harcourt for the summit to personally witness the nightmare of users of the road.
“I was arranged to travel by air and I told myself ‘those who are traveling on that road are Rivers people, are Bayelsa people and Niger Delta people and if they are suffering, let me go and see their suffering’ and I couldn’t believe what I saw today.
“Some people have been there for one week. Some have been there for two days. That is not the Niger Delta that we want to be. That is not the Niger Delta our forefathers dreamt about. And so I appeal particularly to our own son who is here representing Mr. President to take this message to Mr. President and let them act fast on the East-West road,” Diri said.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented Tinubu at the summit on Friday.
Diri, however, appreciated the President for “prioritising the Niger Delta by appointing a board on time and a management team on time.”
He called on Tinubu to ensure that there is a complementary approach to the execution of the project to ensure there is concurrent construction from both ends in Lagos and Calabar.
“We have also witnessed recently the construction of the coastal road that is going to run from Lagos to Calabar. And we want to appreciate and thank the President for that.
“However, I would like to appeal that as the construction is commencing from Lagos, let it also have a concurrent commencement from the Calabar axis of the road,” he said.
The Lagos-Calabar Coastal road project will traverse nine states along Nigeria’s coastal shoreline while linking the A1, A2, A3, and A4 highway corridors vertically crossing the western, central and eastern regions of the country, north to south.
Starting from Lagos and terminating in Cross River State, the over N15 trillion highway project will include a spur to the north-central part of the country.

‘‘This has nothing to do with whether Toyin Abraham is a public figure or not, or if you’re just a regular citizen,” she explained.
