Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed his joy over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) win in the recently concluded bye-election in Plateau State’s Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency.

Governor Ortom, who was the chairman of the PDP campaign council, praised Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who was the co-chairman of the campaign council, for holding firm the party’s structures in the run-up to the election, while praising the perseverance and determination of the party faithful and its candidate who earned the victory.

“With this triumph, it is no longer in doubt where the people stand in 2023,” the Governor stated in a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nat Ikyur. Nigerians have clearly aligned behind the PDP in their endeavor to rescue and restore the country from the APC’s misrule.”

He was gratified that, despite harassment by state government agents in Plateau, the people showed their resolve and indomitable spirit in the run-up to the poll, during the election, and afterward.

He promised Nigerians that the PDP will live up to its promises by working for the country’s citizens’ peace, welfare, and security.

Governor Ortom pledged that his party will return Nigeria to an egalitarian society in which every citizen, regardless of tribe or religion, could follow his or her genuine desire in any region of the country without fear of intimidation or molestation.

“It was a razor-thin margin,” he stated of the PDP’s loss in the state assembly byelection. This indicates that our forecast is on track.”

Ortom led the PDP campaign council to success in the Federal Capital Territory council elections a few weeks ago, defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“It is a strong evidence that Nigerians are tired of the poor leadership of the APC,” he said, citing the party’s string of triumphs in previous elections. And we will not let Nigerians down in our determination to restore the country from the wreckage of misrule.”

Hon. Musa Agah Avia, the PDP candidate in the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency bye-election, was declared the winner with a total of 40,343 votes.
