One ‘motor boy’ killed in Lagos auto crash

A yet-to-be-identified motor boy accompanying a truck lost his life when the vehicle collided with another truck along the Poka Road in the Epe area of Lagos State.

The accident, according to the Head of Public Affairs of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Nosa Okunbor, occurred in the late hours of Monday.

Okunbor, in a statement obtained by *According to Metro* on Tuesday, noted that investigations at the scene of the crash revealed that another truck had attempted to overtake the mini-truck, which contained bags of cement and some individuals, leading to a collision.

He added that the impact of the collision led to the fall of one of the motor boys, who died as a result of the fall.

Okunbor narrated, “Upon arrival of the agency’s response team at the incident scene by 1922hrs, it was observed that a mini-truck, registration number unknown, laden with Dangote Cement, was involved in an accident at the aforementioned carriageway.

“Further investigations by the LRT revealed that the said mini-truck while approaching the abovementioned road, was involved in an accident when attempts by an unknown articulated truck to overtake it resulted in a side collision with the said mini-truck.

“Impact of the collision reportedly resulted in the fall of one of the motor boys who sat on the cement at the back of the mini-truck, and the subsequent loss of his life, while the unknown articulated truck absconded from the scene.”

The LASEMA spokesperson noted that the body of the deceased was handed over to the police for necessary action.

“The LRT has bagged the remains of the victim and handed them over to police officers from Noforija Police Station, led by an Inspector. The bagged commodity has been taken to the Epe General Hospital morgue by the police.”

He added that necessary measures were activated to ensure the safety of road users after the accident.

“The LRT has activated necessary safety and appropriate control measures for the protection of all responders and road users at the incident scene during the operation,” Okunbor noted.

According to Metro reported on Monday that no fewer than three persons lost their lives while 17 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in multiple accidents along the Maryland area of the state in the early hours of Sunday.

Okunbor had said that the first accident occurred when a diesel-laden tanker experienced brake failure and rammed into several vehicles, resulting in the deaths of three people and injuries to an unspecified number of others.

He added that upon the LASEMA team’s arrival at the scene around 1 a.m., they discovered another crash involving a containerised truck that had collided with a MACK truck, leaving the container truck driver with a leg injury.
