During his coronation ceremony, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan, called for the establishment of the state of Ibadan.
According to reports, former Kano State Governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke, and Sultan of Sokoto Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III attended the coronation ceremony.
Speaking to the people of Ibadan after being given the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde, Ladoja said that the people’s top priority was for President Bola Tinubu to create Ibadan State before 2027.
“My people sent me a message to Mr President,” the monarch declared in Yoruba. They stated that the establishment of Ibadan State is their top objective, Mr. President.
In the meantime, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Balogun of Ibadan-designate, has clarified why Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate, will be crowned in a civilized and orderly manner.
In contrast to the disputes that followed the rise of the late Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ajibola told Punch on Thursday that the events preceding Ladoja’s accession to the throne had brought the kingmakers together.
When Oba Olakulehin was being chosen, Ajibola, who was Otun Balogun at the time, recounted that he had resisted the procedure, arguing that the late king should be given more time to become suitable for the throne.
