Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has endorsed the Africa Tourism and Creative Economy Expo (AFTCEE), which is set to take place in Abuja in November of this year.
Iweala, who is scheduled to attend, urged African countries to take advantage of the occasion to use their cultural and creative resources for faster trade and economic development.
In a personally signed letter addressed to Mr. Chuks Akamadu, the CEO of Afrocultour, the event’s organizers, with the theme “Optimising Africa’s Comparative and Competitive Advantage for Accelerated Trade and Economic Growth,” she pointed out that the continent is incredibly rich in cultural and tourism-related opportunities.
“The WTO believes the future of trade lies in services, and tourism and the creative economy have a central role to play,” she said, emphasizing the importance of utilizing these advantages to further integrate into regional and global supply chains.
