Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo, the top Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has denounced the suspension and subsequent arrest of Dr. Godwin Emefiele, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The arrest and detention were characterised by Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo as a manifestation of ethnic cleansing.

Apparently, the organisation made this information public in a statement that Mazi Chima Uzor, director of National Interest Matters, made available to journalists.

Emefiele’s suspension did not, in the organization’s opinion, follow the law.

He continued by saying that the selection is a deliberate effort by the current administration to exclude Igbos from holding public office.

This was the statement:

The suspension of Dr. Godwin Emefiele as CBN Governor by President Bola Tinubu’s administration is categorically denounced in full by Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo Worldwide.

“To put it mildly, this suspension lacks due process, and the arrest despite a court order preventing the DSS from detaining him is provocative. Well-meaning Nigerians must oppose it and ensure that it does not stand.

“In our opinion, the development is unmistakably a component of the new administration’s plan to remove Igbos from public office through ethnic cleansing.

“The only reason the Igbos are the targets of this witch hunt is because they dared to vote against the new government in the most recent general election.”
