Ogun woman sets self ablaze over N70, 000 loan

According to reports, a woman in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, set herself on fire due to her inability to repay a N70,000 loan she took out from a microfinance bank.

The woman, known only as Mama Dada, set fire to both herself and the apartment she was renting in Abeokuta’s Oke-Keesi neighborhood.

According to reports, she committed suicide to save herself from the humiliation brought on by her inability to pay back the N70,000 loan.

The deceased is alleged to have locked herself in after the boy was asked to leave, doused the entire house in gasoline, including herself, and then set the entire thing on fire over the weekend.

The State General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta, had received her body.
Olumide Aderinokun, a senatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun Central, responded to the incident by expressing sadness over it.

Aderinokun lamented the suffering women had to go through because of the loan program and called the deceased’s action tragic.
It was claimed that because of their poverty, many traders in Ogun State had turned to usurers for assistance.

Due to the country’s weak economy, the majority of borrowers miss payments on their loans and are subjected to extremely humiliating treatment, such as being arrested and being locked up in restrooms.
