Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Director-General of the NYSC, has urged members of the public to send memoranda in support of the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund bill to the House Committee on Youth and Sports before the public hearing on February 24, 2022.
He also urged members of the public to attend the public hearing on the day of the hearing to show their support for the Trust Fund’s establishment.
This was stated by Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim on Thursday in Abuja during a training session for Desk Officers on the documentation of NYSC activities.
“The DG has asked that all hands be on deck for the actualisation of the Trust Fund, which would address the challenges of inadequate funding, infrastructural deficits in the Scheme, expansion of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program (SAED), provision of start-up capitals for Corps Members to drive their business initiatives und,” Emeka Mgbemena, Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations, NYSC, said in a statement to Daily Independent on Thursday.
“As you are probably aware, a public hearing on the bill to establish the NYSC Trust Fund has been scheduled for Thursday, February 24, 2022.”
As a result, he urged everyone to support the Scheme’s advocacy efforts in order to see the Trust Fund become a reality.
“All of us should try to tap into our network of friends, including influential people, Corps employers, academics, civil society organizations, student bodies, media practitioners, and other groups,” he said.
“We should encourage them to write to the House Committee on Youth and Sports in support of the bill, as well as show up in person on the day of the public hearing to show their support,” the DG said.

The Director-General, speaking through Mr. Leke Abiodun, Director, Internal Audit, stressed the importance of adequately documenting the Scheme’s activities for posterity, noting that NYSC “is one of the enduring national institutions that has positively impacted the lives of Nigerians and shaped the socio-economic and political development of the country.”
He urged the Desk Officers to be committed to the training’s goal by paying close attention and absorbing the information that would be given to them, and he assured them of management’s support in carrying out their duties effectively.
The Director-General also stated that the Scheme is not resting on its laurels, stating that the need to maintain documentation of its activities was the impetus for the training.

“As you return to your various formations following the training, you must remain committed to this special assignment in order for us to achieve the goal of your appointment as members of the standing committee and Desk Officers on the documentation of NYSC activities,” said lbrahim.
The DG urged the Desk Officers to stay focused on their tasks, as Management intends to publish the final product of their uploads as a book and make it available for online research.
