NYSC DG promises greater partnership with Minting Coy

Maj-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has pledged to continue the Scheme’s relationship with the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) in the area of certificate manufacture.

The move, according to the DG, is intended to promote the creation of local content.

General Ibrahim offered the promise when hosting the NSPMC Management during a courtesy visit to the Scheme’s National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja over the weekend.

He thanked NSPMC Management for being a prominent employer of Corps services and for creating a platform for Corps Members to gain self-reliance skills.

“The NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program is a sure way of addressing the problem of post-service unemployment, and has the power to stimulate positive multiplier effects in the nation’s economy,” according to the NYSC helmsman.

He went on to say that the NYSC administration had suggested the establishment of a Trust Fund, which had passed first and second readings in the National Assembly, as well as a scaled public hearing.

General Ibrahim emphasized that once the Trust Fund is operating, it will provide start-up funding for Corps Entrepreneurs as well as a long-term basis for the Scheme’s growth and development.

Earlier, NSPMC’s Managing Director, Alh. Abbas Umar Masanawa, informed the DG that they were on a “Thank You” visit to the NYSC Headquarters to express their gratitude for the Scheme’s continued patronage of their services, particularly in the printing of NYSC security documents, describing NYSC as a unique partner worthy of emulation by other government ministries, departments, and agencies.
