Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, says God will not forgive the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if it fails to rescue Nigerians from the socio-economic hardships brought on by the APC-led Federal Government’s policies.
He emphasized that for the PDP to achieve this goal, all governors of the main opposition party must work together.
This was stated by the governor during a courtesy visit to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde at Government House in Ibadan on Tuesday.
He explained that he was in the state to express his gratitude to Governor Makinde, who served as secretary of the PDP Convention Planning Committee, for organizing what Nigerians hailed as the best convention in the party’s history.
Governor Wike stated that now that the party has a new national leadership, the governors and other members of the party must remain united in order to form a formidable team to depose the APC in 2023.

He was quoted in a statement by his spokesman, Kelvin Ebiri, as saying, “It is important for us as a party to unite because Nigerians are waiting for PDP.” “We can’t afford to miss out on this opportunity, and the governors must work together and support the party.”
“It makes no difference who the presidential candidate is. I can assure you that if the party and the governors are united, victory will be ours.”
According to the governor, millions of Nigerians are living in abject poverty as a result of the country’s harsh socioeconomic policies, and they are desperately looking to the PDP to help them.
“As a party, we must sit down and make the best decision that will make Nigerians happy and help us win the election.” Anything we do that does not result in us winning the election is pointless because we still want Nigerians to suffer.
“The suffering of Nigerians must come to an end. They have suffered enough at the hands of the APC, and God will punish the PDP if Nigeria is not rescued,” he said.

Governor Wike urged those fanning the flames of discord over zoning issues to stay away from the party.
Various stakeholders, he claims, will meet to choose a presidential candidate who can win the election for the PDP at the right time.
The governor also urged party members to be ready to support the PDP’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, whoever that may be.
He also took the opportunity to express his condolences to Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo State over the death of the Olubadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and to pray that God grant the people wisdom and courage as they navigate the process of electing a new Olubadan.
Governor Makinde responded by saying that the APC-led Federal Government’s nearly seven-year reign has been a national disaster.
He bemoaned the fact that the Nigerian economy, which had been growing at a rate of 5% to 6%, had suddenly stalled due to the government’s inept policies.

“We went through a recession and then came out of it. “We thought it was over; we went back into recession, and the population is growing at an alarming rate,” said the governor.
Regarding the PDP presidential candidate, he advised those seeking the presidency to run not for the sake of power, but for the sake of making the country prosperous.
Governor Makinde also praised Governor Wike for empathizing with the Oyo State government and people in the wake of the Olubadan’s death.
