Northerners may be unable to vote in 2023 If banditry continue – public commentator

Alhaji Ahmed Bakare, a public commentator, has sent a warning to Zamfara State Governor, Hon. Bello Mohammed, saying that declaring a state of emergency in the north will not solve the region’s security problems.

The Governor has forgotten that the government pays the military and other security operatives in the north, according to the commentator, who laments that the Governor wants to eliminate their jobs in order to increase insecurity in the north.

Nobody, he claims, is above the government’s power unless the government refuses to act.

He quoted late Nigerian President General Sani Abacha, who said that if a crisis in a society lasts more than 24 hours, the government is involved.

Alhaji Bakare claimed that the military and other security operatives in the north can put an end to the banditry that is ravaging the region, but that they are not being given the opportunity to carry out their constitutional responsibility as life and property protectors.

He challenged Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle to give the military and other security operatives the authority to carry out their constitutional duties and see if banditry activities in the state could not be ended in the shortest time possible.

“No one can escape reality, and we all know that many people are benefiting significantly from the state’s banditry activities,” he lamented.

“Why is it that these banditry activities only affect the common people? To discover the truths, we must delve deeply into the matter.”

“Even the government owes citizens an explanation as to why these banditry activities have continued to worsen day after day.

“There is no doubt that the north faces serious security issues, as our so-called leaders have alluded to the north’s security challenges.

“If the insecurity in the north continues, the region will have the lowest turnout in the 2023 general elections because people will be afraid of losing their lives during the elections.”

He urged Matawalle and others to keep their tongues in check so that a new crisis in the north would not arise.
