NNPP finally expels Kwankwaso, gives reason

Rabiu Kwankwaso, a contender for president in 2023, has been dismissed from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) after he refused to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee.

The expulsion of Kwankwaso is effective immediately, according to the NNPP’s National Executive Committee.

The NNPP’s acting national publicity secretary, Abdulsalam Abdulrasaq, made this announcement in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos.

Due to his egregious anti-party actions and improper handling of campaign finances, Kwankwaso had been suspended by the NNPP during its National Convention on August 29 in Lagos.

Kwankwaso was removed from the party if he did not show up to defend himself before the disciplinary committee that the National Executive Council of the party established after his suspension.

In a statement, Abdulrasaq stated: “The NEC met in an emergency session on September 1 and decided as follows:

Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is thus expelled from the NNPP with immediate effect due to his reluctance to attend before the disciplinary committee, which met on Thursday, August 31, despite being formally invited in writing.

Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a former presidential contender, “will be reported to appropriate quarters to answer questions on financial irregularity relating to mismanagement of public funds,” the statement reads.

The NNPP crisis reportedly started on August 24 when Kwankwaso-aligned party leaders announced the suspension of the organization’s founder, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the national publicity secretary, Dr. Agbo Major.
