Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an Igbo socio-political organization, has admitted that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOBagitations ,’s will have an impact on the Southeast’s chances of producing a Nigerian president in 2023.
Kanu’s directive that his followers not participate in voter registration and destroy their Personal Voters Cards, or PVCs, would jeopardize the Igbo’s chances of producing a Nigerian president, according to Dimm Uche Okwukwu, Deputy President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
In an exclusive interview with Okwukwu, he urged Nigerians not to see Igbos through the lens of Kanu and IPOB.
Igbos, according to Okwukwu, are peace-loving people who are always willing to coexist with other Nigerians.
Kanu, he said, should be ignored because he criticizes Igbo and non-Igbo leaders.
“Marginalization has a way of producing results,” Okwukwu says, “and you will agree with me that the majority of people are poor and marginalized.”

“These poor marginalized people will follow you if you tell them what they want to hear; however, Nnamdi Kanu is not getting it right because he has subscribed to violence as a way of life and has not limited it to Igbo leaders.
“He has attacked Asiwaju, Ekweremadu, and Rotimi Amaechi in Lagos; he has threatened to kill Igbo leaders and governors, so he is not only attacking outsiders; he is also attacking his Igbo brothers and sisters.
“The point I’m trying to make is that we need to take Nnamdi Kanu and put him back where he belongs. He is not an Igbo leader and does not speak on behalf of the Ndigbo people.
“This is my argument: Igbos do not believe in violence, anarchy, or the destruction of lives and property. Igbos in Nigeria are willing to live in peace with other tribes.
“Igbos are demanding that the Presidency be given to an Igbo man 50 years after the war. Jonathan ruled for six years and Nigeria did not vanish; Yorubas were in power, the North ruled, and now the Igbo can rule. Will they have any other arguments tomorrow if you give them the presidency? Will they claim that Nigeria is pushing them out? The answer is no, because people will wonder what they did with the presidency after they had it for eight years.
“Kanu’s agitation will undoubtedly have a significant impact on our chances. Nnamdi Kanu’s agitations, statements, actions, omissions, and commissions have an impact on us in some way.

“He is preventing Igbo voters from registering to vote, and he is urging supporters to destroy their PVC cards. Apart from the fact that Nigeria requires our assistance to some extent, Nnamdi Kanu’s actions reflect our own.
“The result of his action jeopardizes our desire because when you say people should destroy their PVCs and not participate in voter registration, it affects us in some way, and I won’t deny that in any way.
“However, I appeal to everyone not to mirror the Igbos through IPOB’s actions.”
