The Nigerian business sector in the diaspora has written former Vice President Atiku Abubaar ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The Nigeeians, who are important players in the country’s success and prosperity, expressed worry over the quality of the country’s political leadership.

They claimed that a country’s success or failure is proportionate to the quality of its political leadership.

Leadership involves innovation, ingenuity, vision, experience, competence, and a formidable track record, according to the Nigerians headed by Prof. Isah Odidi.

The group also reminded the former Vice President that, above all, a leader must be able to bring together the finest and brightest in the country’s management.

Nigerians in exile also observed that a leader for a complicated and varied nation like Nigeria must have a uniting vision, as well as an understanding of and respect for our ethnic and religious plurality.

Below is the whole letter:

We came to the conclusion that your Excellency is the most appropriately qualified for the challenge of reconstructing Nigeria and putting it on the road of economic development and prosperity based on these leadership qualities and our evaluation of the political situation in Nigeria. Your track record speaks for itself.

You played a vital role in the execution of the Obasanjo administration’s policy goals as a former Vice President of Nigeria. He entrusted you with a number of duties, including the execution of the privatization initiative, which you handled admirably.

You were an integral element of the administration’s economic reform program’s effective execution. You’ve also put up a strong team of professionals to assist you in carrying out those national obligations.

The improvement in the country’s GDP and the increase in foreign direct investments in Nigeria were two of Obasanjo’s most notable achievements. You were a part of that success story, Your Excellency.

In 2006, the government in which you served as vice president was able to obtain a debt reduction of $18 billion. Unfortunately, that work is now being sabotaged since the current administration is putting us back into debt.

Sir, we are dismayed to see Nigeria regressing. We are confronted with major issues like as instability, unemployment, poverty, and deteriorating healthcare and educational standards.

Leadership is a serious duty, and no nation can afford to entrust its destiny to those who want power for its own sake but lack the necessary traits or abilities to meet the difficulties. Every problem that the APC government pledged to fix is steadily worsening. The country’s broad pessimism is an indication of leadership failure.

In light of this, Sir, we implore you to respond to Nigerians’ loud pleas to enter the presidential campaign. Your expertise as a successful investor in education, as well as other areas of business, is a significant asset that you may apply to Nigeria’s benefit. The economy is critical to the achievement of all government policy goals.

Your expertise in the business world will help you manage and expand the economy. Waiting for good fortune is not a viable business approach. Nigeria needs a leader like you who can put together a powerful economic team to strategize on answers.

We, the Nigerian diaspora, realize that you are pro-business and well-versed in current business practices. Nigeria is best positioned to serve as a key center for service delivery and the employment that would result.

In order to achieve significant progress in our search for growth, the nation also need a knowledge and industrial economy.

Based on your track record, you are the best qualified candidate for the presidency and the aspirations of Nigerians living abroad.

Your dedication to our common good and tolerance for our ethnic and religious diversity is unmatched. One of your greatest and most charming qualities is your determination to do justice to all Nigerians. Indeed, your leadership characteristics excite us for these reasons.

Your Excellency, we have come today as Nigerians in the Diaspora to urge you to heed the clarion cry of Nigerians and run for President in 2023. We are confronting an existential crisis that must be addressed by a man with experience.

Your track record is outstanding. Democratic leadership is only as good as the people who run for office. The consequences of electing candidates who are unprepared for the post are severe.

We in the Diaspora want for genuine change, which can only be achieved by choosing leaders like you. Accept our invitation to join the race to repair Nigeria.
