The Defence Headquarters has issued a stern warning against the proposed nationwide protest, drawing parallels to recent unrest in Kenya.
Maj Gen Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, addressed journalists in Abuja on Thursday, expressing concerns over potential violence orchestrated by infiltrators.
“The aim of the protest is to replicate what is happening in Kenya,” Maj Gen Buba stated. “And I would add that what is happening in Kenya in terms of the protest, one, is violence. Two, it remains unresolved as we speak now.”

He continued, emphasizing intelligence reports suggesting that certain elements planned to hijack the peaceful demonstrations, potentially leading to widespread disorder.
“Based on what has been gathered, there are plans by some unscrupulous elements to hijack this protest and ensure that it turns violent,” he explained.
The military official urged caution among the public, highlighting the risks associated with such demonstrations. “When it turns violent, I want to tell you what we have seen as it would likely happen,” he warned. “Indeed, we need to count our blessings.”
The proposed protest has stirred controversy across the country, with organizers asserting their rights to peaceful assembly while critics argue that security risks could escalate amid ongoing tensions.
