In response to the alleged murder of a soldier by a police officer on Wednesday in Lagos State, the Nigerian Army responded on Thursday.
A statement from the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, which is signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olabisi Ayeni, contains the response.
Ayeni asserted that the suspect (Policeman) was not properly attired and standing very close to a patrol car from Operation MESA when the victim (Soldier) allegedly confronted him to verify his identity.
“This caused an argument, which then resulted in the unfortunate incident.
When the soldier arrived at the Lagos State Polytechnic Hospital in Odogunyan for treatment, it was already too late.

The 174 Battalion Medical Center in Ikorodu has received the soldier’s corpse, according to an army spokesperson.
According to him, the suspect was detained by the military for the safety of the individual before being turned over to the Nigeria Police Force for prosecution.
“However, a vengeful mob that had seen the unfortunate incident seized the opportunity and attacked the local police station.
To prevent a breakdown in law and order, troops have been stationed close to all police stations in the Ikorodu area.
Ayeni declared that “the situation is under control” and that “normalcy has returned to the community.”

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the angry mob at Ogijo Community, a border town between the states of Ogun and Lagos, attacked a police station on Wednesday in response to the death of the soldier who was allegedly fatally stabbed by the policemen.
