Targeting Boko Haram rebel hideouts in Chikide and Degbewa, which are situated in the Mandara Mountains in Borno State, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved notable success in a precision attack.
The terrorist organization suffered significant losses as a result of the March 16, 2025, airstrike.
Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the NAF’s Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, said in a statement that the strike was predicated on reliable intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) reports that pinpointed important rebel hiding places in the region.
A high-level meeting of Boko Haram leader Ali Ngulde and his fighters, who were reportedly assembling in the area, was the target of the operation, according to reports.

The airstrike, which targeted reinforced command hubs with solar-powered equipment in the rough terrain, was carried out under cover of darkness, according to the NAF’s statement. The militants were caught off guard by the surprise strike made possible by this calculated move.

According to Ali’s announcement, “On March 16, 2025, the NAF carried out a devastating nocturnal airstrike against terrorist hideouts in Chikide and Degbewa in a daring display of air power and precision night warfare capabilities.” The operation disrupted the militants’ activities and dealt a devastating blow to their stronghold by targeting insurgent pockets deep into the perilous Mandara Mountains.

The presence of heavily defended structures at the Degbewa area was confirmed by surveillance operations to be a major insurgent assembly point.

The NAF’s prompt action in reaction to this intelligence resulted in a successful, targeted attack that damaged crucial command and logistics infrastructure.

The night operation’s successful completion demonstrated the NAF’s increasing efficacy in both day and night operations. Numerous terrorists were killed by the airstrike, which also caused massive flames and damaged vital insurgent infrastructure.

“This night operation’s successful execution highlights the NAF’s increasing dominance in both day and night air power capabilities, demonstrating that insurgents can no longer operate under cover of darkness,” Ali continued.

The NAF has reaffirmed its will to keep up its unrelenting efforts to destroy terrorist networks and bring peace back to the area. The NAF wants to make sure that insurgents no longer take refuge in the area by conducting persistent airstrikes.

“The NAF remains committed to using its formidable air power to neutralize terrorist networks and restore lasting peace to the region through relentless precision strikes and sustained air operations,” Ali said in closing.
