Should the naira shortage last past February 5, 2023, the North Central Youth Stakeholders Forum has urged Nigerians to get ready to participate in a massive “Bring Back Our Old Notes” protest.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar had urged the Central Bank of Nigeria not to extend the naira swap deadline past February 10, 2023. The group responded on Saturday with the call in a statement signed by its Chairman, Mohammed Mohammed.
Atiku made his statement after the CBN extended the deadline until February 10 on Sunday, January 29. Because “vote riggers are trying to push the CBN to extend until after the election, when they would have achieved their evil plots,” he said there should be no further extensions to the deadline.
However, NYCSF urged Nigerians to wait before staging the protest, labeling Atiku’s remarks as “callous, reckless, and insensitive to the plight of the masses.”
Additionally, the group noted that more than 80% of local governments in the North Central and across the nation lacked banks and ATMs.

“We urge all Nigerians to keep an eye on the country’s direction in light of the current situation and to get ready to participate in a large-scale “Bring Back Our Old Notes” protest if the shortage of the new notes continues after February 5th.
“More than 80% of local governments in the North Central region, as well as the entire nation, lack banks. The NCYSF wants to remind everyone that their enemies are not secret, as demonstrated by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s most recent statement.
In addition, NYCSF demanded that Emefiele resign from his position as CBN Governor immediately and that affected families and communities hold the former vice president, Godwin Emefiele, and other collaborators accountable for their sufferings.
