The Progressive Alliance Movement (PAM), a sociopolitical pressure group, has pleaded with Nigerians to have patience with the new government and to make room in their hearts to recognise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to lessen the suffering caused by the suspension of fuel subsidies.

Members of the group reasoned that the president and the administration would be better encouraged and motivated to do more to raise the living standard of Nigerians above its current levels as well as bring rapid development to the country with sincere appreciation from the populace, public support, and patience.

At a press conference last weekend, the group’s president, Prince Bassey Newgent Ekamon JP, cited the immediate release of N2 billion—out of the N5 billion the president had promised as palliative packages—and the distribution of various food items to the 36 state governments and the FCT administration as sufficient proof that the government was sincerely looking for solutions and had the best interests of the people at heart.

The projects and reform initiatives planned for the nation and its people, according to Prince Ekamon, would ultimately cause Nigerians to hail the Tinubu-led administration as the best in recent memory, beginning with the 100th day of its tenure.

The president’s appointment of opposition and non-APC members into the federal cabinet, while competent party members in the party were left without positions and have become mere observers, was criticised by group members.

Ekamon bemoaned that APC members who toiled for the victory of the party at the polls and the election of President Tinubu were rewarded and given preferential treatment over opposition leaders, including those who opposed the president.

He also thanked members of the ruling party who toiled and expended their time, energy, and effort to guarantee victory for the party and urged the president to urgently rethink the appointments and fix the imbalanced nature of the award system.

The group, whose briefing was themed “Thumbs up for Tinubu,” also encouraged the president to prevent the military seizure of the Niger Republic from deterring him from efficiently implementing his “Renewed Hope Agenda” to improve the lot of Nigerians.
