The purported defamation lawsuit against author and lawyer Dele Farotimi of Lagos, which was brought by Nigeria Police Inspector-General Kayode Egbetokun, has been withdrawn.
The notice of discontinuance, dated January 29, was filed in accordance with the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, Section 108 (1) (2) (a). The charge against Mr. Farotimi at the Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti is to be dropped.
The police would seek the court to dismiss the charge in light of the nominal complainant, Are Afe Babalola, wanting to end the case following the intervention of well-meaning Nigerians, according to the notice, which was signed by police prosecutor Samson Osubu.
