In the most recent FIFA world rankings, which were released on Thursday, the Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped from 35 to 40.
The Super Eagles, who are currently sixth in Africa, also fell in the rankings that were posted on the official FIFA website.
The Eagles were shocked by Guinea-Bissau on match day three of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Abuja, moving them up to position 113.

Sierra Leone, the Eagles’ following opponent in the AFCON qualifying matches, dropped to position 117.
Atlas Lions of Morocco, who advanced to the World Cup semifinals in Qatar in 2022, remained ranked first in Africa and eleventh overall.
AFCON champions Teranga Lions of Senegal moved up to 18 while Tunisia rose to 28 in the world ranking and third in Africa.
Meanwhile, world champions Argentina are back at the summit of the FIFA ranking for the first time in over six years.
Argentina leapfrogged Brazil after enjoying friendly wins over Panama and Curaçao at the same time as their old rivals were losing to Morocco.

France also moved past Brazil after beating the Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland in their opening UEFA EURO qualifiers.
The next FIFA men’s world ranking will be published on 20 July 2023.
