Nnamdi Kanu, the group’s leader, has praised the clarification of Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, as a non-terrorist organization as a positive development.
Kanu welcomed the clarification provided by the Institute for Economics and Peace’s Global Terrorist Index.
In a previous GTI 2023 report, IPOB was ranked as the tenth deadliest terrorist organization in the world.
In response to the formal protestations and the quantum public condemnations, the GTI reconsidered and published a clarification that did not state, imply or even suggest indirectly that it ranked IPOB as the 10th terrorist group in the world.
It is crucial to distinguish between the group’s peaceful activities and any alleged involvement in violent activity, according to the clarification. The Global Terrorism Index 2023 has been updated today to reflect this necessary clarification.
Kanu applauded GTI’s clarification of its report.
The IPOB leader revealed this to his Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, during a routine meeting at the Department of State Service (DSS) detention center.
Ejimakor stated in a tweet: “I just left today’s meeting with #MNK. I informed him of the GTI/positive IEP’s clarification regarding the alleged classification of IPOB as a dangerous terrorist organization as was expected.
He appreciated the explanation, but we both agreed that more needs to be done.
