Olukoyede, the new head of the EFCC, informs lawmakers that the NASS would launch an anti-graft campaign.

The National Assembly has been informed by Ola Olukoyede, the newly appointed Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), that they will be the targets of the anti-graft campaign.

Despite opposition from a variety of Nigerians, Olukoyede’s candidacy was approved by the Senate on Wednesday. He instructed the MPs to make sure that the National Assembly is where the fight against corruption starts.

During his screening, Olukoyede responded to inquiries from the senators by saying he was “ready to work no matter whose ox was gored.”

The battle against corruption should start right here in this sacred chamber. He said, “You become the enemy of everyone if you are battling corruption.

He continued by saying it was time for all of the nation’s anti-corruption organizations to shift their emphasis from upholding the law to crime prevention.

We will use enforcement extremely seriously because it is a very powerful instrument at our disposal.

“There is what we refer to as a transactional credit system, without undervaluing the significance of enforcement. The truth is that a thousand anti-corruption organizations won’t help us if we let Nigerians continue to purchase expensive vehicles, homes, and other real estate with cash since our credit system is ineffective.

“We need to establish an environment that ensures individuals have options. Can I afford to provide my kids a solid education at a respectable school if I don’t steal money? After working for five years, may I purchase a car if I don’t steal any money? Can I build a three-room home after 20 years of employment if I don’t steal money?

The typical Nigerian is a homeless person who would steal when given the chance. Even in the absence of the chance, he would make one.

“We need to push the criminal justice system to make decisions quickly so that cases don’t drag on for ages.

The prosecution shouldn’t be permitted to proceed from the court of first instance to the Supreme Court for a maximum of five years. That is something the Senate can take very seriously. You will notice that the anti-corruption authorities are working very hard if we can actually make the criminal justice system run smoothly.

In addition, the EFCC chairman expressed his opinion that there is a connection between the nation’s low level of living and the growth of corruption, and he pledged to take all necessary steps to stop financial leaks from the government.

“A typical Nigerian civil servant’s savings during his years of employment are insufficient to construct the kind of homes and vehicles they own.

Our issue is comparable to the aforementioned animal that was imprisoned in a cage among several ripe bananas. The proprietor was outside using a cane. Either the monkey ate the bananas, got banged up and survived, or let the bananas go bad and starve to death.

“I’ll put forth extra effort to stop the leaks. When we could have spent less to stop corruption, we battle it with more money.
