In honor of International Women’s Day, British American Tobacco (BAT) reaffirmed its dedication to gender diversity.

According to the business, the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), “Embrace Equity,” is a call to action for advancing women’s opportunities and fostering equity in order to foster harmony, unity, and the success of all.

British American Tobacco in West and Central Africa acknowledges that each of its employees is different and has a range of needs, experiences, and opportunities. By fostering equity, everyone has access to the same opportunities.

“Embracing equity offers a great chance to highlight British American Tobacco’s (BAT) inclusive and diverse culture, which demonstrates the company’s dedication to gender diversity. The company is proud of its diversity and inclusion initiatives; impressively, we received the Brandon Hall Excellence Award for Best Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Strategy on a global scale. We were also included in the 2023 Bloomberg Gender Equality Index for demonstrating a commitment to addressing gender diversity and transparent reporting, the statement said.

“The BAT of tomorrow will be a high growth, consumer goods company, with sustainability and diversity at our core,” the company continued. Our ambitious goals include increasing the percentage of women in senior leadership teams to 40%, the percentage of women in management roles to 45%, and the achievement of at least a 50% spread of nationalities within all significant leadership teams.

It stated that, “in doing this, we understand and are committed to fostering a gender equal-equity workforce which is evident in the independent accreditation from Fair Pay Workplace (FPW) for equitable pay practices,” adding that “this accelerated focus on diversity is crucial in creating a dynamic and inspiring work that will propel BAT into the future and create a better tomorrow for all stakeholders.”

“Identifying the unique skills set and capabilities, perspectives, ideas, and background of our employees, empowers them and creates an inclusive culture that unites us as one and makes BAT a Great place to work,” said Odiri Erewa-Meggison, director of external affairs for West and Central Africa.

Equity is everyone’s duty, and at BAT, we foster an inclusive workplace that values the particular contributions made by women to the company.

BAT’s Sergio Berlanga, director of human resources, said, “As we strive to transform our business, we need to challenge the status quo and foster innovation. This entails improving recruitment and retention of talent with a broader range of skills, embracing an inclusive workplace, and aiming for even greater gender parity.

The theme #Embrace Equity and a call to action for advancing women’s equality in the workplace and society at large were used this year by BAT employees in West and Central Africa to commemorate International Women’s Day.
