Bode George, a PDP chieftain and member of the party’s board of trustees, has denied claims that Nyesom Wike’s dominance in the opposition party is reflected in the appointment of Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s national secretary.
George insisted that the party’s best interests guided the decision to recognize Anyanwu and that no one person had any influence on it in an interview with Punch on Wednesday.
George responded, “Absolutely not!” when asked if the action indicated the PDP had given up to Wike.

“Let us meet at the NEC,” he added. You will find out who is winning and who is losing at the NEC meeting.

George emphasized that at the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025, all unresolved matters pertaining to the role of the National Secretary will be settled.
“Any decision made at NEC is final,” he said. For reasons that are most well-known within the party, Anyanwu’s return as PDP National Secretary carries a lot of implications. As an elder, I am appealing to all parties, particularly the irate ones. They ought to relax. We shall resolve our internal issues when we meet.

The former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP emphasized that no one individual can take control of the PDP organization, taking a subtle jab at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Our party is different from the APC, which is owned by an individual,” he stated. We are pleading with all parties to consider peace. We’ll figure things out, but I have to say that one person cannot outweigh this party.

“There is a saying in Yoruba land that when you prostrate for a dwarf, you will still be taller than the dwarf when you get up,” George continued, using a Yoruba proverb to support his argument.

George cautioned that the PDP needs to reorient itself in advance of the general elections in 2027 and asked all party members to cease viewing events as a win-or-lose scenario.

“There is nothing permanent in this life,” he continued. We shouldn’t assign a winner or a loser to this event (Anyanwu’s comeback).

“We must settle down to present to the people, and Nigerians are anticipating improved governance in 2027.”
