The National Drug Laws Enforcement Agency NDLEA has detained a Ghanaian and two Nigerians for trafficking 9.953 kilos of cocaine and methamphetamine at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja and the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, respectively.
Mr Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, made the announcement in a press statement on Sunday.

“One of the suspects, Uzoh Ndubuisi Johnson, was detained on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 during an inward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers at the airport’s Arrival Hall,” the statement stated. Uzoh, who travelled from Brazil through Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was apprehended with 6.7 kilograms of cocaine-impregnated clothing.”
“While being interrogated by narcotics officers, Uzoh stated that he was handed the consignment by his enabler in Brazil, for which he would be paid N3 million upon successful delivery to someone in Nigeria,” according to the document.
“Another trafficker, 53-year-old Udeh Charley, was caught at the Enugu airport for consuming 72 wraps of Cocaine totaling 1.253 kilograms,” according to the report. On Friday, December 3rd, he was apprehended during the outward screening of Ethiopian Airlines passengers flying to Rome, Italy via Addis Ababa.”
“He stated he would have been paid 4000 Euros on the successful delivery of the drugs in Italy, where he has been living for over 20 years,” the prosecutor said while in jail.
“Another trafficker, 25-year-old John Kadja, whose father is from Kumasi, Ashanti region of Ghana, and mother is from Nsukka, Enugu State, was arrested on Friday 3rd December with 2 kilograms of Methamphetamine during an outward clearance of Qatar Airways from Abuja to Doha at the departure screening area of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja during an outward clearance of Qatar Airways from Abuja to Doha,” according

“The medication was hidden in a fake bottom of his checked luggage, according to an inspection of his suitcase.” He explained that he was going to Doha to work as a laborer.”
Arrests made in other states include:
“43-year-old Onuoha Friday was detained on Friday 10th December along the Lagos-Benin road with one million capsules of Tramadol,” according to Ondo State, “while a total of 238.973 kilograms of different illicit substances were recovered in two big arrests in Anambra state.”
“NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck traveling to Delta State at the Onitsha head bridge on Friday, December 3rd, with various quantities of Codeine, Tramadol, Diazepam, and Rohypnol recovered from the vehicle and its driver, Obinna Obinwa, arrested.”
“Raids and follow-up operations carried out in parts of Delta State on Friday 10th December resulted in the arrest of a 17-year-old Abdulkarim Shiabu and a 23-year-old Lawal Saidu, both from Niger Republic, as well as four others with various quantities of Cocaine, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Tramadol, and Cannabis, amongst other drugs,” according to the statement.
“Adam Salaudeen was detained with 214.7kg of Cannabis sativa in the Ogori Magongo district of Kogi State.”

Brig. Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd), the Chief Executive of the NDLEA, commended the officers and men of the Enugu and Abuja airports commands, as well as their counterparts in the affected States, and charged them and their compatriots across the country to remain vigilant and resolute in the collective mission to rid Nigeria of illicit drugs.
