NBBF Premier League Dunk-off is a lot of fun

After years of dormancy, Nigeria’s men’s basketball league finally comes to life.

The Nigeria Basketball Premier League kicks off today, September 8, 2021, in Abuja, the nation’s capital, and Akure, Ondo State.

Remember that a court case had previously halted the league, but the February 2021 judgment quashed all of the cases, a decision that many hailed as a victory for basketball in the United States.

The Gombe Bull will face Defenders at Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja at 10:00 a.m., while Nigeria Customs will face Benue Braves at 12:45 p.m. in the first game of the Savannah Conference.

By 2:45 p.m., Gboko City Chiefs will face Reformers, and by 4:45 p.m., Nigerian Army will face Kano Pillars in the final game of the day.

In addition, 11 teams from the Atlantic conference will compete at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Akure Township stadium, including the Rivers Hoopers, Kwara Falcons, Raptors, Police Baton, Ondo Raiders, Islanders, Coal City, Impressions, CAMAC, Invaders, and Lagos Warriors.

Engr. Musa Kida, Chairman of the Nigeria Basketball Federation’s (NBBF) Caretaker Committee, told journalists in Abuja that everything is in place for a better 2021 Nigeria Basketball Premier League.
All hands are on deck, according to him, to start the Basketball Premier League in both the Atlantic and Savannah conferences.

“The Secretariat is in charge of sending letters to the various clubs, which is why the League is kicking off in Abuja.”
