The Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA) Skills Acquisition Centre is being built by the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command in Oghara, Delta State.
Mrs Loveleen Lassa, the command’s NOWA coordinator, revealed this at the Logistics Command during the inauguration of the NOWA secretariat and the foundation laying ceremony for the association’s proposed shopping complex.
Mrs. Lassa stated that, once completed, the skill acquisition project would be part of NOWA’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to its host communities.
“As part of NOWA’s corporate social responsibility initiative, the skill acquisition center will be open to members of the host communities.

“On the lower floor, there will be offices and a conference room, while on the upper floor, there will be a skills acquisition center with tailoring and bakery sections,” she explained.
Mrs Lassa also thanked the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command, Oghara, for providing a secretariat to NOWA, which was led by Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Rear Admiral Sileranda Lassa.
According to her, until October 2020, when the FOC allocated a section of the building complex for the establishment of the secretariat, the association had no office in the command.
“Previously, there were no offices or structures for NOWA at the Nigerian Navy Logistics Command in Oghara.
She explained, “The NOWA Secretariat was recently completed and tastefully furnished to provide an enabling environment for carrying out the activities of NOWA in the Command.”
Earlier, Hajiya Nana Gambo, the NOWA’s national president, who inaugurated the secretariat, stated that the NOWA’s goal was to establish zones in all of the Nigerian Navy’s naval formations across the country.

Mrs Gambo, the wife of the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, said the gesture would help the association organize itself better and reach out to other women both inside and outside the barracks.
She praised Rear Admiral Lassa’s leadership qualities, calling him a “beacon of hope for NOWA and the Nigerian Navy.”
Mrs. Gambo laid the foundation stone for the proposed shopping complex.
Some members of the NOWA, led by Mrs Gambo, planted trees at the Logistics Command as part of the event.
