Victor Osimhen, a Nigerian footballer, has been barred from representing the Super Eagles at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon by an Italian professional football club.
According to reports, Osimhen is recovering from a collar bone injury, and Napoli is concerned about his well-being.
The 2021 AFCON kicks off on January 9 and runs until February 6, 2022, with the Nigerian national team eagerly anticipating Osimhen’s return.

The 23-year-old player is thought to have spent the Christmas holidays with his family in Nigeria, but he’ll be back in Napoli on Friday for a medical check following cheekbone surgery he had at the end of November.
According to Football Italia, Osimhen may not be allowed to play against Juventus on January 6 or even in the AFCON, and “it will be Nigeria’s responsibility to consider the player available for the tournament in Cameroon,” adding that “it will be Nigeria’s responsibility to consider the player available for the tournament in Cameroon.”
The Super Eagles face Egypt’s national team on January 11, and Osimhen’s chances of playing are in jeopardy after his club’s doctor declared him unfit for action.
Osimhen was said to have expressed interest in playing for Nigeria at the AFCON a few days ago, despite the fact that his recovery was expected to take three months.
Last week, the young star stated that he would be able to compete in the AFCON.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s training retreat begins on Wednesday, and it’s unclear whether Osimhen will be among his Super Eagles teammates for the first training session before the tournament.
