Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State, claimed that President Muhammadu Buhari was duped by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) into thinking that the Naira redesign policy was intended to guarantee free and fair elections in 2023.
According to reports, El Rufai stated this on Thursday night during a state-wide broadcast and insisted that the redesign of the Naira is a scheme to thwart the upcoming elections and appoint an interim administration.

El-Rufai called the initiative “mindless,” and claimed that it has put the common people—who he claimed are the policy’s victims—through untold hardship. Additionally, he criticized CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.
“The Central Bank of Nigeria frequently made mention of the fact that the policy also targets politicians who have amassed a sizable war chest for buying votes during the elections in official briefings to the President.

In the name of ensuring free and fair elections in 2023, El Rufai said, “it is now clear that the President has been deceived by the Central Bank of Nigeria and some elements in his government into buying into this overarching narrative.
