Naira abuse: Court grants N5m bail to Nollywood actress

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has accused a Nollywood actress, Ms. Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin, of tampering with and spraying new Naira notes. Yesterday, a Federal High Court in Lagos granted her N5 million bail (EFCC).

Omoseyin was charged with two counts by the EFCC and appeared in court on Monday before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke.
The fees bothered people who stepped on and sprayed the newly created Naira notes.

The defendant, a 31-year-old man, was accused of spraying and stepping on a total of N100,000 in brand-new notes during an incident in the Lekki neighborhood of Lagos State.

She did, however, enter a not guilty plea to the charge, and the court did not rule on her request for bail until yesterday. In his ruling yesterday, Justice Aneke granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5 million with one surety in like sum.
The court held that the surety must be a public servant, and must have a landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The surety must also show three years of tax-clearance documents.

In addition, the defendant was ordered to deposit her international passport with the court’s registrar.

He set a trial date of April 3 for the case.

The defendant was accused of committing the crime on January 28 at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, as stated in the charge.

Mr. S.I. Sulaiman, the prosecutor, claimed that while the defendant was dancing, he sprayed and trampled on newly designed Naira notes.

The Central Bank Act of 2007’s Section 21 (1) was violated by the offense.
Following the online publication of a video showing the 31-year-old spraying and trampling the newly redesigned Naira notes at a party, the woman was taken into custody.

She was also seen flaunting stacks of the brand-new Naira notes in the trending video.

The trial date for the lawsuit is set for April 3.
