Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, has declared that he has not given his support to anyone for the National Assembly leadership.

He made this statement during a gathering of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) and incoming National Assembly members at the Presidential Villa in Abuja’s Banquet Hall.
Since last week, when certificates of return were distributed to the victorious candidates in the February 25 parliamentary elections, planning for the Senate presidency and the speaker positions has reached a peak.

According to the report, candidates for the presiding officer positions have been lobbying their colleagues in advance of the 10th assembly’s opening in June of this year.
Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano), Godswill Akpabio (APC, Akwa Ibom), Orji Uzor Kalu (APC, Abia), Sani Musa (APC, Niger), and Dave Umahi are among those vying for the Senate president position (APC, Ebonyi).
Ahmed Idris Wase (Plateau), the deputy speaker of the house, Muktar Aliyu Betara (Borno), the chairman of the house appropriations committee, Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Kano), and Aminu Sani Jaji are the candidates for speaker (Zamfara).
Before the start of the 10th assembly, the party’s leadership is anticipated to make the zoning of the presiding officers public.

According to a source at the meeting, the president-elect informed the lawmakers-elect that he had not endorsed anyone through the vice president-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The key issue was that neither the party nor the newly elected president had endorsed anyone for a position in the National Assembly.

Our attention is on the upcoming state assembly and governor elections on Saturday. We urge our elected officials to return to their constituents and exert every effort to help our candidates win the upcoming elections, the source said.

Zoning meeting to follow election for governor

According to the source, the party would hold a meeting to decide on the zoning of the presiding officers following the governorship elections.

The party is in charge. The party will deliberate on the pertinent issues at the appropriate time and make informed decisions, keeping in mind the national interest, the stability of the nation, equity, justice, and fairness, in consultation with President Buhari, the president-elect, the vice president-elect, and other important stakeholders, he said.

One of the three reasons the meeting was called, according to Senator Abdullahi Adamu, national chairman of the APC, was the need to advise National Assembly members-elect to use caution when competing for leadership positions.

He declared: “There are numerous rumors about some of you competing for leadership positions in the national assembly in the news media, particularly on social media. This is commonplace. People have the right to compete for leadership positions for which they feel eminently qualified. But as members of the party’s national working committee, we are uncomfortable with the approach taken by those running for those positions. it. I don’t. I don’t want to. I don’t want to. I don’t want to. I don’t. I want to.

“In this regard, we would like to issue a word of warning to all of you. Starting early might be a good idea, but sometimes doing so too soon can lead to unintended consequences that hurt the party’s health and cause nasty divisions.

The party leadership and the president-elect will hold the necessary consultations to determine how those offices will be shared. I can assure you that the majority of our members will be satisfied with whatever sharing arrangement the party and the president-elect come up with.

Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno South) responded to inquiries by saying that the party leadership had advised them to downplay the leadership issues and concentrate more on making sure “we take the election battle to the end.

“What we agreed on is that the National Assembly members should produce their leadership based on who they believe to be the best, as well as taking into account the issues at hand and putting justice, fairness, and equity into place. The president-elect will make his decision at the appropriate time, he said.

“After the gubernatorial election, we will gather again, take stock of what we have accomplished, and from there, the zoning formula the party wants to adopt will be given out,” said Senator Mohammed Sani Musa (APC, Niger East).

Discussions about the National Assembly’s leadership will take place after the elections on Saturday, according to House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to the report, the meeting is thought to be necessary to prevent a repeat of the circumstances in 2015, which led to the election of Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara as the Senate’s president and speaker, respectively, against the wishes of the party leadership.
