My Award for Independent Newspapers Is A Call To Better Service — Diri

Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State, has stated that receiving the Independent Newspapers’ Governor of the Year 2021 Award will motivate him to better serve his state and country.

On Saturday night, he was presented with the award at a well-attended event held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

Diri, who was named the best in the category of Good Governance and Responsive Leadership, dedicated the award to the people of the state as well as his administration team.
His Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah, confirmed this in a statement, adding that the award was not only for him but also for members of his Prosperity Administration and all Bayelsans.

He expressed gratitude to the media organization for the recognition, noting that he was ecstatic that the newspaper had recognized his silent achievements.

Diri described Bayelsa as a hub of oil and gas activities in Nigeria, saying that the state has created an enabling environment for investors in various sectors.

“We are happy that our modest efforts are resonating and have attracted this award,” the governor said. It is, however, not only to me as governor, but also to the people of Bayelsa and the Prosperity Administration team.

“This is a new call to duty for us.” Much is expected of those who are given much. So, in the face of diminishing resources, the more we can mus­ter, the more impact we can have on the lives and environment of our state.” Bayelsa is considered to be one of Nigeria’s most peaceful states. It is the center of the oil and gas industry.

“I can assure you that Bayel­sa is ready to welcome the entire world.” The state now has a functioning airport, with two airlines operating daily flights from Lagos and Abuja to Bayelsa.”

Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Seyi Makinde (Benue) were among the governors who received awards in various categories (Oyo).
