Abdullahi Adamu, a motorcyclist, claimed he got involved in a kidnapping after his father was tragically killed by armed robbers.
The Ondo State security organization, Amotekun, recently paraded Adamu along with 30 other suspected criminals, including nine kidnappers.
The report quotes Adamu as saying: “I chose to be a kidnapper because of destiny. My father is no longer in my life. Years ago, armed robbers killed my father.

“Life got tough for me and my siblings after he passed away. Our mother was unable to care for us properly. My siblings and I found it very difficult to survive. I, therefore, made the decision to enter the kidnapping industry.
Before being detained by Amotekun staff, Adamu, a resident of Katsina State, claimed that this was his first time taking part in such an operation.
Bello, a farmer from Akunnu-Akoko, described his terrifying experience when six armed men suddenly approached him as he was praying there. They used a stick to beat him up and forced him to go with them into the woods.
“I was fed with little garri and no water for five days before I was rescued by Amotekun Corps,” he claimed.
“They asked me to follow them and some of them had guns. I was led into the woods by them. They later got in touch with my family and demanded a ransom to free me.
Later, when they wanted to collect the ransom paid for my release, Amotekun Corps members came to my rescue.
Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the state commander of the security organization, confirmed the arrest and that the suspects were caught trying to get the ransom. Adeleye stated that when the suspects arrived for the payment, his team, posing as members of the victim’s family, managed to apprehend three of them.
“The three who were arrested led us to other six suspects,” he continued. Nine of them were thus taken into custody, and they will soon face charges in court.
