Major General Abdul Khalifah Ibrahim, Force Commander, FC, Multinational Joint Taskforce, says the fight against terrorism necessitates a global approach.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders in order to isolate and clear terrorists from the Lake Chad Basin area.

Major General Ibrahim stated this while declaring the Joint Integrated Operations Planning Course open in N’Djamena, Chad, according to a statement released by Colonel Mohammed Dole, Chief of Military Public Information, HQ MNJTF, N’DJAMENA CHAD, who emphasized the importance of restoring security and stability in the region.

He emphasized that the fight against Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents should not be left to the military alone during the course, which took place from September 27 to October 1, 2021.

According to him, military actions alone will not solve the problem, necessitating a multi-faceted approach to address it.

“It has been established that the fight against terrorism, in general, requires a global approach, integrating various skills held by both civilians and the military,” the FC said at the event.

Capabilities in planning and leadership
The course, according to Major General Ibrahim, was designed to strengthen the MNJTF’s planning and leadership capabilities in order to achieve the desired security.

The FC emphasized the uniqueness of the training, which brought together civilian and military representatives from six African countries (Benin, Cameroon, Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Senegal) as well as the United Kingdom. The FC predicted that the course would improve participants’ knowledge by better understanding the crisis management process.

He also expressed gratitude to Operation TURUS, the coordinating partner, and praised the efforts of the partnership system established by the British Armed Forces to provide multi-forum support to West and Central African countries.

Major General Ibrahim urged participants to put forth a concerted effort to get the most out of the training, emphasizing the importance of discipline, interest, and commitment as necessary components for knowledge acquisition.

The main goal of the orientation course was to introduce the MNJTF SML to the AU system and values, as well as to improve the MNJTF-AU synergy.

During the briefings, Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Commission, praised the MNJTF leadership’s efforts and urged them to continue to improve the stability of the Lake Chad Basin Region.
