Mob Violence in Borno Claims MOPOL Officer, Destroys Police Vehicle

In Borno State, a group of artisanal miners ambushed security personnel, burned down a patrol car, and viciously murdered a Police Mobile Force (PMF) officer.

Sahara Reporters reports that the tragic event happened at a Millennium Metals mining location in the Zunzungi region of the state on Tuesday at approximately 1:45 p.m.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel tasked with protecting mining materials were on a routine patrol in the Millennium Metals mining area when they confronted a group of local youths, known as “daba boys,” who were allegedly involved in illegal monazite excavation, locally known as “zeiko,” according to a wireless message from the aforementioned publication.

During the incident, the mined product was purportedly confiscated by the NSCDC personnel. But things soon got out of hand.

In the meantime, the lads organized and attacked the NSCDC staff after the merchandise was confiscated. Additionally attacked was the late PC Emmanuel Samson, a police officer who was on a joint patrol with the NSCDC squad.

During the subsequent violence, the attackers set fire to a Hilux patrol car that the security team was using.

However, it has been alleged that the attackers beat PC Emmanuel Samson, who was assigned to MOPOL 12, Police Mobile Force, Minna, to death.
