Raymond Dokpesi, owner of Ray Power, AIT, is dead

According to a family friend who declined to be identified, Mr Dokpesi fell off a treadmill in his Abuja home on Monday morning. His death was caused by the accident.

The deceased, 71, had a stroke in February but was thought to be recovering.

Mr. Dokpesi’s son, Raymond Dokpesi (JNR), later confirmed his father’s death in a statement issued on his behalf.

“The family will release further details on the funeral arrangements in due course,” he said.

After the broadcast industry was deregulated in 1992, Mr Dokpesi founded Nigeria’s first private radio station, Ray Power FM, and African Independent Television (AIT) in 1993.

We announce the death of High Chief Raymond Aleogho Anthony Dokpesi (Ezomo of Weppa-Wanno Kingdom) on May 29th, 2023, with deep sadness and heavy hearts. High Chief Dokpesi was adored by many as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend. All who knew him will miss him greatly.

High Chief Dokpesi was also a well-known and successful businessman, a pioneer in the media industry, and a philanthropist who dedicated his life to serving his country and community. His legacy will live on through the impact he had on many people’s lives.

During this difficult time, the Dokpesi family is grateful for the outpouring of love and support. We would appreciate it if you would keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of our patriarch. We also request privacy during this time as we grieve as a family.
