In the Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State, a team of security guards dispersed a group of thugs who ambushed their convoy while on patrol near Apata Junction Market.
The incident was confirmed in a statement released on Saturday by Adewale Osifeso, a representative of the Oyo State Police Command.
According to Mr. Osifeso, security personnel were patrolling blackspots and flashpoints when they came across the criminals.
“In a rather unexpected event, the hoodlums who had planned to harass shop owners, molest residents, and loot stores launched a series of unprovoked attacks by firing guns, throwing sharp objects, and other dangerous missiles at them after spotting the combined convoy of security.

“The trained officers used restraints and professionally assumed control at the scene because they were worried about the number of casualties that might be reported if they engaged at the scene.
“The team used reasonable force to arrest the situation in accordance with police standard operating procedure.
But during the outburst, he added, “A person identified to have been a member of a vigilance group and who was reported to have died in the fiasco has since been deposited at a government hospital for post-mortem.”

Normalcy had since returned to the region, Mr. Osifeso added, with a significant deployment of patrol teams and other tactical assets visible on the ground.
Despite isolated pockets of protests seen in some areas of the Ibadan metropolis, the command, according to him, would continue to maintain peace in the state.
