The accident happened on Monday at approximately 1:58 pm near the Fidiwo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway. Five passengers were reported dead and eight others injured.
A Mazda bus with the registration number EKY582 YE and another Mercedes-Benz truck without a number plate were involved in the fatal collision.
The truck allegedly experienced a tyre burst while driving, which caused it to lose control and collide with the Mazda bus.
Florence Okpe, the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command, made this claim in a statement.
The statement said, in part, that the fatal collision happened at roughly 1358 hours on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway near Fidiwo.

A Mercedes Benz truck without a number plate and a Mazda bus with the registration number EKY582 YE were among the two cars involved.
There were fifteen people in all, seven of whom were female adults and eight of whom were male. Five people were reported dead from the crash—four male adults and one female adult—while eight people—five male adults and three female adults—were injured.
The truck’s loss of control and speeding were the likely causes of the fatal collision, which resulted in the truck and bus colliding while moving.
“The sad incident on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway that resulted in the deaths of five people pains the Sector Commander of the FRSC Ogun Sector, CC Anthony Uga.
“He advised motorists to pay more attention on tyres and avoid the use of worn- out or expired tyres”.
