Peaceful protests in Kano and Jigawa, on Thursday turned into chaos after security agencies tried using bullets and teargas to disperse the crowd. Jigawa State.
The nationwide protest was organized to demand government reforms over the recent hardship in the country and has seen a significant turnout of aggrieved Nigerians.
For fear of attacks, commuters remained indoors while shops and businesses were on lockdown.
However, the protesters who were in the streets chanted solidarity songs demanding an end to bad governance. Their placards read; n “bring back subsidy.”
In Jigawa State the protest began from Eid ground following by pass, going through Government House road.
The protesters, however, burnt tyres along the government house road causing the police to fire tear gas to disperse them.
While in Kano TVN observed that the protesters got wider acceptability across the metropolis and local government areas.
Two persons were, however, reported dead in Kano and many others were injured when the operatives fired live rounds into the crowd and tear-gassed the protesters.
Checks by our correspondent at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital show that many protesters were rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
The protesters suffered injuries and bullet wounds. Doctors are now busy trying to save the lives of the casualties.
