The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, allegedly arrested a man and his wife for attempting to sell their six and four-year-old daughters.
Elisha Effiong and his wife were apprehended in Uyo on November 15 after the agency received information that the couple was attempting to sell their daughters Abasifreke Edet and Rachael Edet for N700,000.

The couple stated in a statement on November 23 that the reason for their decision to sell their children was because of the hardship in the country, according to Umana Ukeme, the command’s public relations officer.
