Rokia Traoré was arrested on Tuesday when she got off the plane at Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport, near Paris. The arrest followed a conflict around the custody of her daughter.
The international arrest warrant against Rokia Traoré was issued late last year by Belgian justice for “kidnapping, forcible confinement and hostage taking”. The facts relate to the girl that Rokia Traoré had with her ex-Belgian companion, Jan Goosens.
The Brussels Court gave sole custody of the child to her father while Rokia Traoré has since appealed against the judgement.

According to Maître Kenneth Feliho, Rokia Traoré had refused to hand over her daughter to her ex-partner, because a complaint has been filed against him for sexual touching on the child.
Rokia Traoré is being incarcerated at Fleury-Mérogis prison while waiting for the Paris court to decide on her extradition to Belgium next Wednesday. The artist faces a five-year prison sentence, according to Maître Feliho.
