Over 122,000 people have been forced to leave their homes throughout Malaysia due to severe floods brought on by days of intense rain, and three fatalities have been confirmed by disaster officials. Authorities caution that if severe rain and storm warnings continue, the number may increase.
679 shelters have been set up to house the displaced, and thousands of emergency professionals have been sent in to help with rescue efforts.
Videos of homes and cars engulfed in floodwaters are making the rounds online, and people are wading through waist-deep water to get to safety.
With 63% of the displaced population, the most affected state is Kelantan, which is in northeastern Thailand.
Terengganu, Kedah, Perlis, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Johor, Melaka, and Perak are among the other states that are impacted.
The state administrations of Kelantan and Terengganu have received further disaster relief supplies, according to confirmation from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s office.

To guarantee that the government’s attention stays on handling the situation, the prime minister forbade cabinet members from taking time off on Friday.
More people have already been displaced by this year’s floods than by the terrible 2014 tragedy, which was one of Malaysia’s worst in recent memory.
It is anticipated that the current monsoon season, which started in November, would make matters worse.
Flooding has caused disasters in six provinces in neighboring Thailand, affecting more than 240,000 families. For rescue efforts, the Thai army has been called into action.
Although flooding is a common occurrence in Malaysia during the monsoon season, the frequency and intensity of these disasters have increased recently.
At least 14 people lost their life to floods in 2021, underscoring the increasing difficulty of handling such emergencies.
